Runescape 3 launches on 22nd July 2013, Jagex has announced.

The release of the next version of the long-running free-to-play MMO marks its transition to a browser-based game. Runescape 3 uses HTML 5 so you don't need Java or other plugins to play it.

Jagex calls Runescape 3 "the most significant update in the game's history". Expect improved graphics, longer draw distances and an upgraded camera system as the fantasy world of Gielinor enters its sixth age.

"RuneScape continues to go from strength to strength, and with the launch of RuneScape 3 this year we will no doubt continue on that upward trajectory," said Jagex boss Mark Gerhard.

"We have a solid line up of the most ambitious innovative content and ground breaking technical innovations ever, all of which will be coming to fruition over the course of the next few months, it's going to be an incredibly exciting time for the community both past and present."
