Vietcong mission pack this September

Publishers are still keen on Charlie. We're not saying anything.

Awkwardly named Take-Two subsidiary Gathering has announced that Vietcong's first mission pack is due out this September, and will be called Vietcong Fist Alpha. Co-developed by Pterodon and Illusion Softworks, Vietcong was one of a recent spate of Vietnam-based shooters, released in April, which met with a degree of critical acclaim, not least of all from our own Kristan Reed.

Fist Alpha will aim to recapture the feverish, claustrophobic jungle combat that Vietcong emphasised, and sees the player take command of the US Special Forces team of the same name, destined to complete seven new single player missions and perhaps even duke it out on eight new multiplayer maps. In keeping with mission pack tradition, players can also look forward to six new weapons, bayonets for one and all and machetes for slicing through jungle foliage and the ubiquitous VC soldier.

Amongst other additions are American B-52 bombers, the F-105 Thunderchief and the F4 Phantom, which will no doubt rain napalm (which smells great in the morning) and generally add to the atmosphere. It's a pity the game isn't due out now, however, because if we're going to suffer in the sweltering heat, then we might as well do it on-screen to boot. Who needs napalm when you're in a room full of servers, eh?
