Rockstar has announced plans to release a GameBoy Advance adaptation of cinematic shoot-'em-up Max Payne before the end of the year. Although this is the first we've heard of it, it sounds like Max's handheld debut has been in development for a while now, with Rockstar aiming for a December 16th release date in North America.

The ambitious publisher even claims that Max Payne GBA will make the series' signature features even more accessible, giving us Bullet Time on the GBA, 10 weapons varying from dual handguns to grenade launchers, and either 10 or 12 New York-based levels (depending on whether you believe the press release or the website) to gun around.

The game will even manage full in-game voice acting to help retain the familiar graphic novel style, with early screenshots giving us some idea of what to expect.

Although Rockstar has yet to announce a European date for the handheld Max Payne, we shouldn't have too long to wait with the game due out in the US before Christmas, and we'll obviously let you know what we think of our favourite constipated anti-cop's first bite-size outing as soon as possible.
