Although many would argue that Dredd vs. Death ultimately failed to live up to weighty expectations, Rebellion's unique position as the game's developer and owners of the 2000 AD properties has given the UK-based company - in the words of CEO and Creative Director Jason Kingsley - "a golden opportunity to document the process". And that's just what they've done.

Released late in 2003, The Making of Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death is an illustrated hardback book, written by 2000 AD books editor Jamie Boardman and designed by David Walsh, which covers every aspect of the maligned game's development - programming, design, scripting, gameplay - and documents the process of translating Mega-City One from the pages of the cult comic to the screens of PC and console gamers.

As well as interviews with the key people involved, the book also features a huge number of images from the game and illustrations of specific features. Whether or not you enjoyed the game, the book aims to offer a rare insight into the process of developing for modern gaming platforms.

The Making of Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death should be available from comic and bookstores now, priced £19.99, and you can also buy it direct from www.2000adonline.com or the likes of Amazon online.
