NCsoft and ArenaNet have revealed the sixth Guild Wars 2 profession: The Thief.

The Thief is said to be "deadly in combat", particularly when catching enemies off guard. Thieves have low armour and health, but they're quick and evasive.

They can "travel through the shadows, vanish into thin air, or steal items from their opponents and use them as weapons". Sounds nifty.

The Thief can dual-wield daggers, swords and pistols. Abilities have no cooldowns, but kicking ass does require what's called Initiative points. Spending Initiative wisely during the heat of battle is key to victory.

The profession sounds like a replacement for the Assassin from Guild Wars, spliced with the Rogue from World of Warcraft. Skills include Stealth, Shadow Stepping and Traps.

So far, six of the eight Guild Wars 2 professions have been revealed: all of the returning GW1 professions - Elementalist, Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer - and two new professions, the Guardian and now the Thief. The Warrior and Guardian share the heavy armour class; the Elementalist and Necromancer share light armour; and the Ranger wears medium armour.

Expect more detail on Guild Wars 2's Thief soon.
