Ghostlight has decided to recreate the gritty barbarism of World War I for PS3 and Xbox 360.

To End All Wars will be a first-person shooter created by Kuju Sheffield - the studio recently renamed to Chemistry and responsible for Sensible Soccer 2006.

The game's biggest strength will apparently be its setting, which will draw on the rather more up-close-and-personal combat of the first World War; taking us back to the muddy trenches and ominous craters of No Man's Land.

It's still a little early for any specific gameplay details, a spokesperson for Ghostlight told us this morning, but squad-based tactics and strategical manoeuvres were mentioned, as were gritty and mature scenarios.

Unfortunately multiplayer and co-operative possibilities weren't something the spokesperson could confirm, although we were assured To End All Wars will come with all the mod-cons you expect from a next-generation title.

Whether it be different enough to stand out from games like Call of Duty, Brothers in Arms, and Medal of Honor we'll have to wait and see.
