Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 will be released for DS on 7th October, Nintendo has announced.

Monsters is a Pokémon-like portable side-series to the main Dragon Quest franchise. Players battle wild critters and, once defeated, can tame them into joining their party.

Joker 2 is fifth in the Dragon Quest Monsters lineage, which began on the Game Boy Color.

Players can import their Joker monsters into Joker 2. There's also online multiplayer battling and secret critters to unlock by connecting with owners of recent DS releases Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies.

Eurogamer bestowed a decent 7/10 upon preceeding title Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, noting that though its roots lay firmly entrenched in Nintendo's own pocket monster series, there was much to enjoy and far superior 3D cel-shaded graphics.

Nintendo yesterday announced another RPG release date for the not-dead-yet DS. Footy role-player Inazuma Eleven launches 26th August.
