Failing Gaming Community

You guys really need to take a look at the overall toxicity that is currently plaguing D2. Not sure what’s happened from Lightfall to now but the overall behavior of folks, especially in LFG Groups, is getting really bad. The raid I just left damn near made me uninstall and I wasn’t even directly involved with any of the problems oddly enough. It’s the way “Pros” deal with the inexperienced players is what really leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I mean I know there’s not much that can be done, I guess but hopefully y’all can develop some type of means to dealing with toxic/ragers/-blam!- gamers.

It’s not just D2 but it’s an issue in all of gaming. Look at how toxic these forums are. Filled with guys that play non stop, are never happy and always have issues. Then there’s the guys who use alt accounts to act toxic toward people. Then there’s the guys who simply don’t play, haven’t in a long time but are here to add to the negativity. It’s to the point that players who are positive, supportive of the community or players that offer help and enjoy the game are referred to as trolls. That last statement is telling of how warped some of the people who play actually are. Bungie needs to clean out the forums again like they did a couple of years ago. They also need to lay down stricter guidelines with toxic behavior from players. I’d suggest looking to Jonty28 and his discord. They’re great players, helpful and there’s no toxicity. Great bunch.

Destiny 2 is designed to encourage elitist behaviour. Bungie encourage it by listening to their favoured group of players and ignoring the majority of players. Look at the atittude shown on here if you dont get on board with Dual Destiny being the best thing ever. Look at the sneering attitude shown to both so called "casuals" and "sweats" by people of the opposite opinion. This game is beyond help for me. Counter that with the Gran Turismo 7 community. The racing is mostly clean with very very few dirty drivers in online that I have seen in my experience. I have won online races and had messages saying "Cool race, congrats on the win" and such, and I've done the same back after losing a race. People make car liveries, helmet liveries and suit liveries that they happily share so everyone can use them, most of my cars are liveried with other peoples creations as some of the creators are real artists. I have dabbled a bit in it, my liveries are not that good but I have had people who are in the top 10 of followed creators say nice things about them and even advise me on how to get better. No eltitism at all. Some people have made hundreds of decals for their liveries and then happily share them for eveyone to use in their liveries. People who put up liveries saying it's a first attempt, or they're trying something new, always get some likes and nice comments. I can spend hours checking out my fellow players creations there, and then racing them against people who just want to enjoy the racing. Likewise my fellow Witcher 3, Red Dead and Cyberpunk players. We just discuss what works, what doesn't and what have found that others might not know about. No one charges around looking down on other people. One of my best Witcher 3 builds came from a mate who happily told me about it, it's a beast. Destiny 2 is the only game that feels this poisonous. Personally I am glad it's on it's last legs.

      • What do you mean now? That's how some have been since the beginning of d1 lol. Or do you not remember 'gally or kick' posts? There's really nothing bungie can do. How the community treats each other is on the community. Don't let the few bad eggs ruin the community for you.

        • I haven’t done a raid in yrs but I used to do them religiously during D1. Part of the problem is they’re too mechanics heavy now and revive tokens don’t help. They’re just not fun like they used to be so ppl just want to get it over with and get their rewards now. You used to actually be able to screw up and still keep going, we finished many encounters with half the team as orbs watching us, now you lose one person and it’s a wipe, so instead of laughing at the person who messed up, now everyone just gets annoyed and angry.

          • Exactly it can take an hour or so trying to find a team on fireteam finder that doesn't have, Expert, Experienced in the tag, when you do you get kicked or they leave if you die trying to learn the encounter. Then it's back to finding another team.

            • This is almost entirely on the Developers. Make the game frustrating and and annoying AF then pit classes against one another to distract for the fact they won’t invest jack -blam!- to improve the players experience.

              • Play different game. Seriously this game is so overrated by these toxic players. I got news for d2 players who think they are special. This game is dead. Imagine caring at this point. The game is so dead. What am I gonna do play the same things over and over again? Pvp mess. Servers mess. Raids are a joke. Like who cares... game is not even worth the headache. Seriously don't understand this games community that has it hammered in they're minds that this game is somehow worth all that. It's not. It's just a game. A pretty shallow one if you ask me.

It's humanity as a whole. This is what happens when eeeeeeverybody always gets a trophy for losing, we stop acknowledging reality to coddle to peoples feel-feels, and society as a whole caters to the absolute lowest common-denominators amongst us. *"Everyone is special, nothing is their fault, everyone is more important than everyone else, look at me! Look at my dinner! Look at my vacation! Look at my private life! Congratulate and agree with everything everyone else wants, feels, prefers, or desires.... or else be branded!!!!"* Aaaand here it has led us....

              • I can totally understand op point of view. I have been in some of these type of teams.. and i'm not a slouch of a player myself. I have also been in the group where the toxic players are the inexperienced players, who don't communicate, don't listen to instruction, want a carry and to deal with ads only and become the problem for the other team members who know what is going on. Raiding in Destiny has become a niche and those who want to get a clear or two.. don't raid and arn't raiders. Some might take the significant time to learn and know what is going on and participate however, most of the casual raiders.. are toxic themselves simply for how they choose to act like every skilled raider SHOULD and MUST carry them to the rewards. Double edged sword for sure. Both sides have a part to play.. as does Bungie for the decisions they make for LFG and the difficulty of each raid. When they are fun, more accessible and more people can earn success.. the less toxic the overall community is. I've been here for 10 years.. Make raiding open to more players, less mechanic tedium and more pew pew fun. Look at scourge and Deep stone crypt they were played by a significant portion of the community.. and now.. the new raid.. fewest clears EVER. Speaks volumes

I would rather play something else with a better community. I can't even find players responding in clan, lfg chats anymore. Friends left this game a long time ago, so finding a new reliable team is just an awful experience. Also, I think the world has gone down the toilet in the last 3 years in general, so that's what we see over here...

Gamers as a whole need too look at themselves really. I remember one adult playing overwatch yelling at this guy not in comms. After the match it was a little child the adult was cussing at. You all need self evaluation.

                      • The only way "pros" get mad at bad players is when the bad players overestimate themselves and join fireteam they shouldn't join. If someone has 1 or 2 raid clears where he mainly did adclear he shouldn't join a fireteam titled "SE fresh kwtd" or something like that. Of course players will get mad if the player doesn't know all mechanics in that case.

Hasn’t it always been? I’ve been playing for a while, my Bungie number is 0331 whatever that means and while I don’t raid anymore I used to a lot back in the D1 days and have heard it all from cussing, insults, and racism. I’d be surprised if things magically got better then became the same again. I guess there’s the report system nowadays but does that do any good?

Been told to KMS by strangers in Trials because I'm still figuring out the maps and plays. Not everyone is like this, most people who play D2 are pretty silent and, usually, if you get to know them are pretty chill. But there are a few loud and proud toxic players who just have to let you know that you have skill issues. They're afraid they might lose a competition with you on even grounds. In reality they have huge mindset issues and god complexes reinforced by this game's reward system where the only gear actually worth using is only obtainable from endgame activities (and they insist on telling you otherwise, but then kick you for not having said gear). Honestly, the fact that raid guides need to explain how combining a circle and a square results in a cylinder should be a red flag on how condescending elitists in this game can really be. I could go on about how this community has a sportsmanship crisis, but I'd rather tell you my favorite experience I had in this game: taking an LFG blue-gear new light through Last Wish and sticking through until the end. I could've kicked him and just found another player who was properly equipped, but I decided to stick through with them and help them grasp the basics. When the rest of the fireteam gave up on us, I kept the dude in my fireteam and just started LFG-ing for others, and eventually, after learning the Riven cheese together, and a lot of Queenswalk wipes, we completed the raid. Until Bungie themselves address the core issues with the game, the best we can do is help each other out. Just know that there are some people who are willing to push through the worst so that you can win together. And that the elitists will never know the feeling of a well-earned victory the same way you do.

                            • Mainly that bungie’s fault… they created a game designed to bring the worst out of people… Another example is the crucible… flooded with prismatic hunters spamming their easy cheesy overpowered toxic abilities all game long… presently more than 50% of the population are hunters running the same crucible builds with Storm’s Edge as their main super (literally a buffed version of thundercrush with roaming ability that can almost instantly teleport to the enemy area up to 3 times). No wonder people are so toxic in the crucible as they can’t stand this never ending ability spam garbage…

                              • Bungie is not new player friendly if you couldn't tell. The removal of older content/story missions make it so newer players have a harder time adjusting to "endgame" content. I've recently played this with my wife and even I, who has played since the beginning; question why they're throwing players everywhere and spamming " PLEASE BUY EXPANSION" crap at us over and over again. It's -blam!- and honestly, you should leave the game while you still can. There's nothing left for it at this point and they need to start respecting the players more than just an ATM they can take money from for half assed content.

                                • You know what else makes me want to quit Destiny? Spending 3 hours doing the same encounter because of one or two players keep repeatedly screwing up. I say this because I’ve had very few toxic experiences like you mentioned, but many experiences like the one I stated. I’m not justifying toxicity, not at all. Just saying my bad experiences have mostly been trying to carry players who don’t seem to learn.
