Bungie does not solve problems, they find solutions that create new problems

Power is a very simple problem to solve. They have pretty much solved it; it doesn't need to exist anymore. At the very least they could make pinnacles random, but deterministic if they want to keep pinnacle power. Why are they maintaining the same exact problem with drops with new solutions that do not do anything? Nothing about anything in the past 10 years of this game has changed about getting 4 pinnacles in the same slot. So the solution is the artifact, the most useless bandaid solution for power. This thing doesn't need power level involved at all. If they actually solved the problem with their pinnacle system, which is literally bad luck for giving effort and dedicating play time, they would come to the very obvious conclusion that it should be a deterministic system and not allow for repeat rewarding in a slot that doesn't need it, disrespecting play time and giving players bad feedback. Thank you so much, Guardian, here is a poor reward for your time. Bungie will not, in any way shape or form, prevent their hubris on what they think they know better, to actually solve the problem. They will, instead, come up with a completely convoluted and needless "solution" to a problem and use it as an opportunity to create new problems they then need to go back and find more band aids to solve because they refuse to solve the right problem in the first place. For example, the artifact, being a band aid solution for a poor leveling system that is becoming more meaningless, being easy to exploit through XP farming, because they don't keep track of exploits, seemingly at all. In addition to that, artifact power needs to go away every season, which is bad feedback for players. All the time you spent - forget it - wiped - now go do it again. Tee hee, Guardian. Look at this Pathfinder system. There was nothing that egregious about bounties, they tried to make it sound like they were solving a problem for players, when they were not. They decided, as a business, to exploit their player base for their playtime and try to push people to activities they don't like to keep engagement numbers up in activities people don't like. I didn't have that problem, Bungie had that problem. And now they have created, yet again, a convoluted system that is trying to "solve a problem" except there wasn't any problem for the players. Players were doing bounties. This new system is designed to solve a business problem, that, yet again, gives players bad feedback. Oh, see all those nodes you already completed? You can't claim those. Not until you play something or do something you don't like, or don't have a build setup for, please spend more and more time on tedium. Eyes up, Guardian. They can't even label the rewards right. The ritual pathfinder gives a pinnacle. But it's labeled as a prime, and this system is largely unpopular, so players likely aren't engaging with it like they hoped. Now, my bet is that the average player power will be a little too low for this exotic mission they are hyping up because so far the season has been underwhelming. Except they will "forget" about this fact, leave it as 2030 power to play, or something, and the next wave of complaints will come right in. Solve the actual problems you have and stop prioritizing the needs of the business over your customers. It's naked and obvious to the players, and it's wild that every time a good piece of work comes out of Bungie has to be born of defiance to upstairs metrics managers because the developers are the people that actually care about how the players, their CUSTOMERS, feel.

  • Going off your title I have to disagree. Their actions show the truth about the entire game on how poorly it's designed, mainly the loot system. This developer creates problems to sell the idea of a solution that never is a solution, and this is why there are always new problems. The truth is there are way too many problems throughout the entire game and they think making the game slightly more difficult "was a solution" when nothing else changed. Whoever it is that thinks they have to constantly change how progress, power, leveling, and the loot system works in this game is the actual problem. There is no consistency at all and there never has been in the last 7 years to actually get the game move forward. Power doesn't mean jack -blam!- in this game, it's an illusion this developer conditioned a lot to believe it does so they run around aimlessly.

Pathfinder is the epitome of this. Wanted to alleviate one problem, created an even more annoying problem that literally everyone hates. Signature bungie ineptitude. I've completed pathfinder I think twice in total. Have not bothered with it at all since the week it launched. The one in pale heart is fine. The ritual activities one is hot garbage.

They certainly do seem to approach delicate brain surgery with mallets a lot of the time. Personally, the way they decided to handle the perceived special ammo problem way back in D1 and later in D2 is one of those areas where they just had a solution with the finesse of a blind dwarf-thrower with ticks.

    • This is my observation: It's always chaos. I'm sure there are several departments (at Bungie), who try to dominate. Those frictions generate stagnation. And that's why so many get started, stopped, and reverted within the game. Every company - that's basic - needs a vision to progress, but Bungie never clearly laid out a goal like that. Because there's too many with their own agendas. They had several projects, and what's left is Destiny 2 and (maybe) Marathon. In addition, the company isn't easy to lead, which is shown by the different publishers they have had for years. They made so many mistakes - I don't want to count them. Because their decisions lead them to where they are. It's sad. Nevertheless, I'm glad I can play the game for another year, even if instruments like Pathfinder are suboptimal and obviously designed to reroute remaining players artificially into different events. I can laugh about something like this.

    • Sounds alot like many governments around the world. Create problems that you need to then create a solution for. While doing that, create more problems you need to solve. Never ever just solving the actual issues the people are asking for.

    • Bungie is allergic to just doing the thing people want and taking the win. Instead, they have to torture some convoluted nonsense into existence and then waste months or years screwing with it until they replace it with different convoluted nonsense.

      • Everything bungie does someway somehow revolves around making them money. Nothing is for the player. Its always about saving money and making money. We are puppets.

Couldn't have said it better myself, well done, listed everything in an a succinct and informative way, Bungie really do have bad habit of "fixing" problems no one had issue with. The legendary shard removal comes to mind for example and legendary lost sectors, now materials are even harder to come by and there's more stress on other materials like ciphers and glimmer.

      • Bungie is the #1 offender when it comes to selling QoL as content. They consistently rearrange the table and call the same dinner “ new “. It’s what the artifact is for. Forced meta = content. Over the top nerfs = them doing something. Using common sense to fix those nerfs = them doing something lol If they just did it right the first time or didn’t create artificial problems and balance the utter lack on content in this game would be laid bare

      • I really miss the days when you could unlock *every* mod within the artifact. Why did they change this???

        • There is a principle in aviation known as the KISS priniciple. Stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. The more complicated you make something, the more people are required to maintain it. These people are then dependant on the system for a living and it's now in their best interests to keep re-inventing the wheel. What you then have are a bunch of people blinded to what they are actually there to do and are instead utterly focused on making themselves indispensable by making something complicated that only they know how to maintain. Example. Bungie looked at Transmog and went "You know what ?? .. Let's design a whole new system of limited bounties to get these consumables we will come up with so players can unlock what they have already earned. Then lets make some paid consumables for the cash shop so people can buy their way to unlocking what they have already earned." You and me would have gone "Yeah, lets just unlock everything you have earned as an ornament, job done." My neighbour is a Doctor and he has a rule when diagnosing that says "If you hear hooves you should be thinking horses, not zebras". Basically, don't overcomplicate it because the simplest solution is normally the best, and right, one.

You are a 💰and nothing more, the longer you play the more they make. Stop believing you a person and keep your Fuzzy lil Azz running Activities.

          • Because people cried they had nothing to do and the game lacked purpose without a power grind. You can thanks those whiners. I personally hate it and find it senseless but I do it over time so all my characters are at max power. They could remove it completely and fixed difficulties for different activities.

Corperate at my job won't even upgrade the place to actually look good and in turn we have had constant complaints about it. To me, that just feels like most businesses these days. The only one I can think of that actually wants to improve their product to make players happy has been DE with Warframe. Hell, they even nerfed the frame Dante a bit after his release, only to revert a bit of the nerf because of player feedback all because the players wanted him unnerfed. That is catering to your playerbase/cusstomers in the right way.

This is EXACTLY what they do. Make issues, then try to sell you the solution in a new season or DLC. It's a money grab. 💯%.
