This story makes you care with all your heart, and you feel like you're right beside Guts and his friends as they traverse an ever-changing world, facing impossible odds, and unimaginable threats. You may gravitate to one character or another as you read, but every single character is memorable, and every chapter is as important as the last. It's truly awe-inspiring.
There are no words I can say to do thr artwork Miura and his team has created justice. It's simply something you must experience ce for yourself. The unbelievable use of shading, contrast, depth, and even the psychology of every panel is masterful. You will find yourself staring at a single corner panel for half a minute sometimes, admiring every line and gradient. The world is beautiful and terrifying. The creatures are fascinating and monstrous. The characters are truly heroic, but flawed. The villains are truly horrifying, and mysterious.
With all sincerity, my heart aches thinking of the passing if Kentaro Miura. He has single-handedly shaped my perception of the fantasy genre and storytelling as a whole, and gifted the world with a book that has no equal, and very likely never will.
Rest in peace, Master Miura.
