Disappointing Ergonomics and Forgetful Memory - Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite Review

Disappointing Ergonomics and Forgetful Memory - Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite Review
I was hyped to level up my MMO/MOBA game with the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite. The advertised 12 programmable buttons seemed like a dream come true for managing complex ability rotations. However, this mouse turned out to be more of a nightmare.Let's Start with the Good:There are a whopping 12 programmable buttons! If you're a macro maestro, this mouse might be your jam, offering enough customization to handle any MMO/MOBA ability set.Now for the Disappointments:Ergonomics are a Letdown: Compared to Logitech mice, the grip feels awkward. The missing thumb rest makes it easy to misclick those extra buttons, especially during intense battles.Software with Amnesia: The software remembers everything... except DPI settings! This is a major oversight for a gaming mouse with on-board memory. Imagine tweaking your DPI for perfect in-game aim, only to have it reset every time you unplug the mouse. This renders on-board memory practically useless for DPI settings, a major frustration.Sweat = Enemy #1: The paint quality is shockingly bad. After just a few months of use, sweat started causing the paint to bubble and wear off completely, leaving behind shiny, smooth plastic that provides even less grip. Not a good look, Corsair. The Verdict:For the price, the Scimitar RGB Elite feels like a cheap knock-off. The ergonomics and software quirks hinder performance, and the paint quality is simply unacceptable. If you're looking for a comfortable, reliable MMO/MOBA mouse, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. This one forgets your DPI settings, forgets its own durability, and ultimately forgets to be a great mouse.

Corsair SCIMITAR ELITE RGB WIRELESS MMO Gaming Mouse (what a mouthful - talk about a long name)
-It feels well built and nice in the hand
-lots of buttons and customisation via the app
-so far the mouse wheel feels smooth
-battery life (via inbuilt battery) is miles ahead of my old RAT 9 wireless mouse
-flexibility of bluetooth or wireless receiver (the usb dongle is neatly hidden in the bottom of the mouse - nice touch)
-ergonomics are pretty good and i love that the buttons have different textures to tell them apart without looking. The side buttons can also be slid closer and further from your thumb and locked in place.
-usable for me as an adult with small baby hands

Negatives
- I miss my pinky and thumb rests from the RAT 9. The corsair has an indented place for the pinky but its not quite as comfortable though Im glad its there. Not something you find on all gaming mice.
-The iCue software took 3 attempts to install for me. Could have been my AV detecting registry entries being made.
-the inbuilt battery is a double edged sword - much larger capacity and charge at the cost of some effort to replace later down the line. Ive made my peace with this but worth thinking about.

I had always been a Razer fan, and used to use a Razer Naga for MMO's but after purchasing a Corsair keyboard a couple of years ago, I have been converted. When it came time to replace my mouse, I decided to take a look at Corsairs offerings and came across the scimitar. I was really interested to see how good the num pad was on it and have found it to be fair superior to the Naga. Being able to adjust the position has been a real game changer as I now find it a lot more comfortable to use. Add to that the num pad light which makes playing in low light much easier and it has a good weight to it as well.

The only thing I could complain about is the single moulded Left and Right buttons. Having used similar types before, I am concerned that they will lose clicks sooner than individual buttons, but as it is working fine at the moment, have still given 5 stars

I first bought this mouse back in November 2020 and then a second time in December 2022.

Don't get me wrong though, this is my favourite mouse of all time, but the biggest downside is that the scroll wheel response gives out overtime if you're using it frequently. Yes, it's still usable, but the amount of fighting I have to do to scroll in/out or up/down when the input decides to do the complete opposite gets super annoying. It only gets worse the more you're using it often too, and sadly I've not found a fix to this issue.

As a TLDR for my honest review on this mouse though.

Pros:
Very nice design, hehe RGB go brr (if you disregard how terrible the ICUE software is)
It fits super well for my hand side, and it has a perfect weight. Doesn't feel heavy.
Wiring is strong, never had any issues with breaking or threading.

Cons:
The scroll wheel gives out overtime and only gets worse the more you use it.
Buttons are relatively close together so it can be easy to click the wrong ones at times.

I got this mouse because I mainly play MMOs (WoW), so I need a 17 button mouse. This is working wonders so far. I've not used it for long, so will update as time goes on. But so far the mouse is great, feels great, and buttons are responding well. Side buttons are also good, as they remind of the Razor Naga (which lasted years, but worn out a bit now, so I got this one)

Nice value for money as well. I don't know what the fuss is about with the software as a few have complained. It's very easy to set up and keybind. I also have not yet experienced any issues with the mouse wheel, which again, many have complained about. Maybe I'm yet to experience it, who knows. So far I like this mouse and would recommend.

Absolutely brilliant, so far. The ability to move the keypad with the included driver is useful even for the one time you will use it. The soft touch texture of the mouse feels amazing and not tacky, also seems like it will last a long time with little marks from oil appearing after a couple of months of heavy use. The mechanical buttons feel good and are easy to differentiate with the variety of texturing on them and they are angled making them feel easy to press but with a normal grip you won't likely accidentally press them (unless you are picking the mouse up a lot). The mouse wheel is tactile and feels as good as any other and the grip on the outer side of the mouse is amazing so far, texture stops any slipping in game and feels like it isn't going to peel off (like the naga does). RGB is really nice and everything is easily customisable with corsair ICUE, while it takes a littler to get the side buttons working it is simple to learn and is much more refined than other mice software. As a Mac user the mouse works perfectly and so does ICUE but switching from Mac to pc or visa versa may require separate profiles. After doing this once on PC and Mac it has worked perfectly every time. The 2 middle mouse buttons below the mouse wheel can be re programmed from profile switch and dpi toggle too, which is very useful as you can set this to what you like then change them to more useful key binds.

So the mouse itself isn't bad to use. Tracking isn't 100% but overall pretty comofortable and nice to use day to day.

Unfortunately the software that comes with this is absolutely shocking to use and not intuitive at all. Switching to Razer has made me realise that the software doesn't have to be awkward. I have only had my Razer mouse for a few days though, so I can't actually speak to its overall quality.

I have had two of these Corsair mice, and both of them have broken after about a year or so. Both in the same way. The mouse scrollwheel starts to skip after a year/18 months and quickly becomes unuseable. I am never buying a Corsair product again as other Corsair items have seemed to take a nosedive in quality over the last few years. Save yourself the trouble and get something else.

3.0 out of 5 stars Droga i ma taką samą wadę co model na kablu.
Reviewed in Poland on 22 April 2024
Style Name: WirelessVerified Purchase

I bought it for my partner who has small hands. Thanks to the sliding buttons she has no problems to reach them.
Though you need thin fingers for this one. When I use it, I always press 2-3 buttons at the same time.
The textured buttons are really nice to know where you are.
