A budget speaker with compromises and the subwoofer adds very little
I read lots of glowing reviews of these speakers and have to say that even though I wasn't expecting much for £34, I still felt disappointed with the Pebble Plus 2.1.The sounds is OK and can go pretty loud, however unless you want the subwoofer on your desk, you really don't even notice it and it doesn't add a thing to your audio experience.In the past I've used other 2.1 systems with a floor placed subwoofer and you can hear the low rumble and bass. With the Pebble Plus as soon as the subwoofer is placed on the floor, you have to literally place your ear next to it to hear any bass. The lack of any adjustment to the level of bass is a real problem, as you'd want to boost it once on the floor.I even tried using eqMac software to add bass to the default of my Mac sound, which helped a bit but overall the sound was kind of flat and lacked any depth. You might as well go for the 2.0 version and save a few found with no expectation of bass notes.Other drawbacks with the Pebble Plus is all the wires are connected to the right speaker, so that is a USB power cable, cable to the subwoofer, cable to the left speaker and finally a cable to the computer 3.5mm jack. This is really messy and makes routing cables a bit of nightmare as they aren't that long.The length of the cable between the right and left speakers isn't that long at all which limits placement on your desk.And my final whinge is there is a bright green LED on the right speaker and when placed on your desk it is right in your line of vision.If your budget is so tight that £34 is your ceiling, then the Pebble Plus might just be acceptable. I'd say spend a bit more, like £10 more or even consider a set of used quality 2.1 speakers.Not for me I'm afraid.

 * FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I recently upgraded my whole WFH setup and bought 2 (1 x 34" and 1 x 27") Dell Curved Monitors. I wanted some speakers that were compact, but could also deliver excellent sound quality. I spent countless of hours looking for the best budget set and these did not disappoint.

The speakers came well packed in medium-sized (but not huge) box with all the necessary cables and manual. First impressions were, the speakers looked really good, not too big and just the right size to fit under my screens.

* SETUP

The set up was fairly easy, I wish the cable length was longer between all the speakers, but it's unfortunately fairly common for PC speakers to be quite short in length.

And if you wanted to extend the length, you can't either because the cables are not detachable from the speakers which is a shame.

In my case though, the length was just perfect so no complaints from me!

* SOUND QUALITY

That's where these speakers really shine. The sound quality is incredible, I didn't expect the quality to be that good for such a cheap and compact set of speakers.

I've been listening to different types of songs including some that I listen to on my Sennheiser MTW3 and I must say the sound quality is definitely up there. Maybe not as defined but they certainly provide a wide soundstage and rich sound.

One downside is that you can't adjust the treble but I am very happy with the default sound.

* BASS

I was super worried that the bass would be quite low or non-existent after reading other reviews, but that was not the case at all. The bass is definitely punchy and loud and I'm so glad I went for the subwoofer version!

* HOW DO THEY COMPARE WITH OTHERS

I had the Logitech Z200 and more recently Creative Inspire T10 but the Creative Pebble Plus 2.1 beats both of them, by far!! I don't think I would ever buy other speakers for PC use in the future.

* CONCLUSION

This is one of my favourite recent purchases. It's incredibly rare to find excellent value for money and these definitely do not disappoint. If you're looking for super high quality HiFi sound these may not be for you but for regular work, games, music and YouTube watching these are just perfect in my opinion. And I've tried several other speakers in the past but happy to settle with these for a longtime. Worth every penny!

Bought these for under my desk, just to play games sat back. However I listen to music everyday and I'm really impressed.

Pros
- Solid bass
- Good volume
- sturdy build quality
- cheap
- long cables

Cons
- cable isnt detachable and will break in the future
- slight static noise

Would buy again based on price.

Ultimately the sound is excellent for the price - so here comes the 'but'. The sub-woofer is not adjustable and it's really quite low powered being that it's USB. As a consequence, on low volume it's barely audible.
It happens that I have a fully configurable sound driver on my laptop - FXSound - and so was able to significantly adjust the output.
It took quite a while to increase the base without distortion whilst also reducing the high pitched treble from the small speakers. But now that the speakers are well balanced for most types of music, the output quality is really very impressive.
But that begs the question - is it necessary to use additional software in order to achieve such good results? It has to be remembered that these are certainly budget speakers and it's therefore unreasonable to expect too much from them. Having said that, my end result far exceeds what I could have realistically expected. I was thinking of sending them back, but I certainly won't be doing so now.
The sub-woofer is only an additional £5 and so it is definitely worth that little extra. I wouldn't get the two speakers on their own as their sound can be a bit piecing!
ADDITIONAL TO THIS REVIEW: On a different laptop, using the standard driver, they work very well indeed giving a surprisingly well balanced sound for the price.

I bought these speakers to replace a great set of speakers that I'd been using for 20 years (that I unfortunately had to leave behind when moving overseas). After doing some research and seeing all the great reviews, I decided to take a chance. And WOW. I can't believe how great these speakers sound! Admittedly, they are a little trebly for my taste, but I added a free 3rd party EQ to my windows, rolled off the top frequencies and increased the low frequencies just a bit, and the sound is PERFECT. I'm thinking seriously about getting another set for my tv! The fact that they are so affordable is just icing on the cake. Go ahead and buy them before they realize that they could be charging twice as much. You won't regret it.

Bought these originally just for watching podcasts at my desktop PC but soon realised they had a lot more potential than that. Ended up loading up a game called War Thunder to really test these at higher volumes and was very much immersed with a wide and deep soundstage and decent enough imaging to hear the different planes around me. Then went and bought a separate 2.1A output USB mains plug to get the better rated wattage and switched them to high gain for a lot more volume and it sounds great for games where you don't need pinpoint precise sounds but need an immersive experience and these provide that sense of immersion for cheap. Music wise I wouldn't use these for it, when you have music playing you start to hear the weaknesses of a cheaper set of speakers mainly in this case high treble peaks and bass that doesn't go low enough as well as the noise floor that has a very audible static hiss from about 2 metres at just above half volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Überraschend gut

5.0 out of 5 stars Un sonido equilibrado sin ser muy potente ni estridente, relación calidad precio es lo que destaco.
Reviewed in Spain on 26 January 2024
