How can I update a very old version of WPML?

If you haven’t updated WPML in a long time, it’s important that you update it gradually:

  1. Go to Plugins Installed Plugins.
  2. Deactivate and delete WPML and all its components.
  3. Next, go to the WPML changelog and download the major WPML version closest to yours. For example, if you have WPML 3.9, the closest major version would be 4.0.8.
  4. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins and upload the WPML version.
  5. Repeat these steps and update WPML one major version at a time. Once you have the latest version of WPML, install the latest versions for the rest of your WPML add-ons.
