Word Press Site Offline

A friend has a Word Press site for his restaurant. A week ago the site went offline. It is hosted by a company and was built by a separate individual. Despite several emails and phone calls the designer does not respond. It is now approaching Christmas and a cash-critical time for all businesses. The hosting company will not give out the login information for the admin.

I appreciate the hosting company’s inability to break their client’s trust. Does anyone know of a fix for this at all. Is there a way around the trust issue that is legal? The restaurant’s owners wish to migrate to another hosting company, but this at the moment is impossible without login details.

I will appreciate any advice that could solve this situation, but fully understand that it may not be at all possible.
