• I have posted an item on the calendar that I would like people to RSVP for. No fee. I can not find a way to set up an RSVP for the event and when I put a $0 ticket it does not work either. How can I post an event that people can register for?

I do not understand what I am doing wrong. The site is for a club of pilots. They often have events like safety seminars and group flyins that they need to know how many people are participating. I do not know how to set this up or at the very least what I am trying is unsuccessful. Advice would be great!

  • The link from the Events List to the Event is incorrect. The page link you specified is using that incorrect link. Here’s the invalid link:

    https://aviation-ranch.com/https:/aviation-ranch.com/events-page/mowing

Try switching to a default theme (e.g., Twenty Twenty-Three) and if that doesn’t fix the problem try disabling all the other plugins. If that fixes the problem enable them one at a time to see which one is causing the problem.

    Nope and Nope.

Neither of those options worked. Switched themes and had the same result. Turned off ALL of the plugins and same result. I can not Give away tickets or set up an RSVP for any of my test events.

Even the links from the calendar to the events are broken.

    OK? What does that mean?

Probably some problem in the WordPress database.

This is just a hunch, but what does the field for “events” at “Events -> Settings -> Pages -> Permalink structure” say in your installation?

Because this looks like you put the full address in there, including https and the like.

Baboehm Thank you and Yes I believe I did. So what does that mean or do? What should go there? I did that because that is what the example below the box shows. e.g. https, bla bla bla

Great, then that should be it 🙂

You’re meant to just put the slug in there, without the site URL.

So in your case just put events-page in there

Also take care not to include any slashes before or after the slug, so no /events-page or events-page/
what would work would be events-page/somethingelse

I see you already seem to have fixed it, but just to be safe, you should probably save the permalink structure in the WordPress settings (“Settings->Permalinks”, just click on the save button (or whatever it says there)).

Just to be clear, you’re free to put whatever word you like in there, as long as it doesn’t start or end with a slash. You don’t have to use “events-page” 🙂

Here is what the instructions say on the page Events>settings>pages>permalink structure. “You can change the permalink structure of your events, locations, categories and tags here. Be aware that you may want to set up redirects if you change your permalink structures to maintain SEO rankings.” This information DOES NOT tell me what to do. DOES NOT TELL ME HOW or WHY I should do this or even what THIS (a permalink) is. Below each window it says “e.g.”

    e.g. https://aviation-ranch.com//2012-olympics/ – you can use / Separators too

This does not tell me what to put between the /&/ So as with most of this stuff I have no idea what I am supposed to do. So Poke and Hope or Trial and Error are my only tools.

Please let me know if you have some advice that would be help full. Your observations are spot on but still gives me nothing to go on.

What should I put in there? Why should I put anything in there? What does this do (other than break my site.

    (@thompsonaire)

OK, I just put the word “events” in there and now the site works! Thank you. Wish I understood more about what all this stuff does and I wish there were explanations that actually explained stuff.

Yes, I agree that the instruction below the events manager input can be misleading – just to be clear, I’m not a developer of this plugin, just someone who has used it a lot already 🙂

Let me try to explain what happened here:

What that setting does – other than breaking your site – is letting you decide what the actual url/address of the events is called.

So if you don’t want to call them “Events” but, say “Parties”, you can put party in that field and all your events will be available at https://aviation-farm.com/party/the-event-in-question instead of https://aviation-farm/event/the-event-in-question, which is the default I think.

This part of the URL is called a “permalink”, as you’re setting it once for all posts of the type “event” (you’re not supposed to change these a lot, hence the “perma-” part of it).
This is part of the WordPress system.
If you change the permalinks, all old links to events will be rendered useless, as they will have changed their address (e.g. replaced the /event/ part with /party/), which is why WordPress is giving you the warning about the redirects whenever you muck about in the permalinks-setting.

As the permalinks are not supposed to be changed a lot (see all of the above), WordPress will only change them according to your settings, once you click on “save” at “Settings->Permalinks”.
That (usually) includes the settings you changed within the Events Manager plugin.
And that is why I told you to click on that.

    Hope that helps 🙂

Can I clone you? THANK YOU. That was one of the best explanations I have had about anything! I am fortunate and thankful you answered my query. You are the best!

    I’m glad that helped 🙂
