I will Migrate WP.org blog to another LAMP/VPS Server, same time I think with this chance to create from scratch a fresh new installation and migrate my data to it from old WP.org since 2010…

I already created a new installation to a new Server

Tools > Export from old installation and Tools > Import in new installation is ok? Requires any additional migration eg. /wp-contents/ folder or … and … ? Or import database…?

my old theme – PHP 7.4 – I think is not compatible with WP 6.2.2 – PHP 8.2.1 – may a similar technology theme works better and equally well?

    I was reading here:

    https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/moving-wordpress/#keeping-your-domain-name-and-urls

If copy /wp-content folder & export import from Admin dashboard

    Tools > export

Is really needed any database copy through?

If you need easy way, you can use plugins like “duplicator” to move your website without coding:

    Hello!

    Thanks for your reply!

So, this you are referring to above is moving content and Not system files of WP… correct?

Content = Text, Markup, Images, … etc. … correct?

NOT PHP, MySQL system files… correct?

Old PHP 7.4, MySQL previous version, WP 5.x or 6.x

New install, same domain – New PHP 8.2, MySQL 8, WP 6.2

old WP Not working with new PHP 8/MYSQL 8

The Old WP installation is related with LAMP versions and also the installed theme and plugins. so you need to match the old server requirements and move the whole old version with old WP installation.

Before moving the old website (using duplicator), Downgrade your new server to match the old server php to 7.4 ( same as old server)
and, do the same for MYSQL version.

Then, use duplicator to move the website

( Note: duplicator installer does a requirements check and it shows what versions you need to update.

To migrate your WP.org blog to another LAMP/VPS server, you can use the “Tools > Export” feature from your old installation and “Tools > Import” in the new installation.
