Investigated further. It’s a plugin conflict. This plugin is causing the issue: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

I have downloaded and installed the plugin and I do not experience the same issue (I can optimise the DB) Can you send us a fresh copy of your php error logs?
Do you see any other error messages at all when you see the unexpected response message?
I’ve already deleted the plugin. If you are correct, then the issue was probably generated by an old version of the plugin. I will try again with a recent version of the plugin.
