Technology change notificationsPosted by Sam Soltano on 12 April 2010 in NewsSummary: Many people are interested to know when websites change the technologies they use. In a new section of our surveys, we show for each technology a list of sites that started using this technology recently. Additionally, we provide a free notification service, letting our users know when a top site switched to a particular technology.
From time to time, there are big waves in the blogosphere when well known websites switch to another technology. For example when Wordpress.com switched to Nginx a while ago, or when Whitehouse.gov started using Drupal.
We have now included a section in all our technology surveys, that shows a selection of sites that started using that technology recently. For example, you can see that the website of The New Yorker magazine obviously changed the server technology. You could also get that information by email using our new technology change notification service. You need to register as user and to click on the link at the bottom of the corresponding technology survey page.
A technology change notification is triggered only when a site uses a technology that it did not use before. If we investigate a new site and detect a technology, this is never considered a technology change. Please note also, that the technology change information is not guaranteed to be correct, you can read more about that in our disclaimer. Nevertheless, we are convinced that this service is helpful for people that closely watch a certain technology, be it for instance a content management system, a certain Linux distribution, a traffic analysis tool or any other technology we support.
