New survey on web panelsSummary: We have added new surveys on the usage of web panels.
Web hosting control panels are utilities to simplify the management of web sites and web servers. They are often provided by web hosting providers as part of their packages.
5.8% of the websites use a web panel. Plesk is by far the most popular one, used by 4.7% of the web, ahead of cPanel with 0.9% usage. While these two tools are usually installed on the server they manage, RunCloud, used by 0.1% of the web, is the most popular SaaS panel solution.
Web panels are less popular among high traffic sites. Only 1.2% of the top 10,000 sites use such a tool.
Different web hosting providers prefer different web panels. For example sites hosted by Rackspace almost exclusively use Plesk, whereas Namecheap sites primarily use cPanel, and RunCloud dominates sites hosted by Advanced Hosting. Windows-based sites use Plesk, whereas Linux-based sites prefer cPanel.
There are remarkable regional differences in the usage of web panels. Only 0.2% of Chinese sites and 1.6% of Russian sites use any web panel. On the other hand, 30.9% of Greek sites, 23.5% of Turkish sites and 16.1% of Swiss sites rely on web panels.
Plesk of the most popular tool in most countries. Exceptions are Argentina, Chile, Peru, Romania, South Africa, Bangladesh and Cambodia, which all prefer cPanel. cPanel is also more popular than Plesk on Arabic language sites.
