Welcome everyone to this Spring Virtual Graduation Ceremony. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are constrained in meeting face-to-face, but know that recording and honoring your success virtually has the same significance and meaning as it would have had, had we been able to gather in person.
Today we come together to celebrate our students, staff, and community - a moment in our collective history where we pay tribute to the many achievements under very challenging and unprecedented conditions.
Central Student Records Division will be handing out the 2021 Spring Graduates’ Certificates, (provided you do not have a fee hold). The handing out will be as follows: See Detailed List Here...
No matter where you find yourselves in the months ahead, in the years ahead, wherever you may be in the country, and whichever twists and turns your careers take over the coming decades, your graduation today brings with it two distinguishing features.
You have completed your degrees and diplomas in the middle of a life-threatening pandemic that continues to disrupt every aspect of life.
Education is a right and not a gift. On behalf of the Student Representative Council (SRC) we congratulate you on your success. A great achievement under very difficult times in our country. You do our generation proud.
‘The thing that motivated me to do my masters at UKZN was the lecturers. I saw so much dedication in them, which made me want to get more from them and also improve my knowledge in an area that I am comfortable with. I wanted to grab as much information as possible.’ – Mr. Thabang Chabalala, MSc Statistics cum laude.
UKZN lecturer Nomakhosi Sibisi graduated from UKZN with a Ph.D in Criminology and Forensic Studies for her study which examined school violence – direct and indirect – from the perspective of victims in a school setting as well as those who were observers.
When Bachelor of Laws (LLB) cum laude graduate Ms Dharini Rangasamy started her studies she never imagined she would conclude them during a global pandemic or that she and her family would contract the virus. ‘My family and I got COVID-19 last year and then I unfortunately got Long COVID for most of the last semester of my degree,’ said Rangasamy.
