I had a chat with a potential client yesterday in the engineering sector. Their current agency charges them 5% for specialist roles. Yes - 5%. What they get for that - is a few people scouring CV library and forwarding CVs without talking to the candidate. A few (later proven to be) fake CVs. A few interviews, with 50% of them not showing up. An engineer - who isn't engaged, or really that bothered. Who lasts three months and then quits for the next role. Rinse and repeat at 5%. Yes low fees sound GREAT when you can get what you think is talent at the doorstep like a discount Uber eats. But - you're replacing them five times a year. And they are not bought into the business. So, not actually cheaper in the long run at all. Anyway, they've been given an idea of what adding value looks like in recruitment and executive search. I can't fathom anyone doing recruitment properly that thinks they are worth only 5%.
