In July, Cardi B confirmed that she was working with the DJ Snake for his forthcoming album, but wouldn't reveal who the other artists would be.
DJ Snake confirmed that the collaboration is for his next single and forthcoming album. “In Los Angeles shooting the music video for my next single,” he wrote on his Instagram Story.
On August 24, 2018, Gomez shared several photos alongside her fellow artists on Instagram. "Today was so fun," Gomez captioned the three-photo gallery. Ozuna revealed on his Instagram account that the name of the new song is "Taki Taki."
On September 17, 2018, DJ Snake revealed the cover art and announced the song would be available September 28, 2018.

Directed by Colin Tilley, the music video premiered on 9 October 2018. A short teaser clip was shown at the 2018 American Music Awards. The video is set in a post-apocalyptic world. The clip transitions with various landscapes showing the quartet together with a volcano in the background and in solo scenes. These scenes include Ozuna in a women-filled pit, Cardi wearing a black bodysuit covered by a black cape accompanied by dancers, and Gomez in a monochromatic outfit in the forest. As of October 2018, it has received over 330 million views on YouTube. It became the fifth fastest video of 2018 to reach 100 million views, and ranked among the top ten fastest overall.

In the United States, "Taki Taki" debuted at number one on Hot Latin Songs, where Ozuna replaced himself as it follows "Te Boté", and number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached number 11 on the Hot 100 in its fourth week. It became Gomez's 16th consecutive top 40 entry on the Hot 100, the longest active run of any artist.
The song had a strong international impact, reaching the top of the Spotify Global 50 chart where it has stayed for over four weeks. This made Cardi B the first female rapper to achieve such a feat. As of October 2018, the song has reached number one on the official charts of 10 countries and the top ten of 30 countries around the world.
