Kitbull

Kitbull is the third 2D experimental Pixar SparkShorts animated short film from the new division of the studio. It was directed by Rosana Sullivan and produced by Kathryn Hendrickson. It had a limited release alongside The Little Mermaid at the El Capitan Theater from January 18 - 24, 2019. It premiered on Disney's new direct-to-consumer streaming service Disney+ in late 2019.

Plot[]

A cat lives in a junkyard in San Francisco, next to a house. The cat is fed by passersby and is able sleep in a cardboard box. One day, a dog moves in to the house next to the junkyard; the dog is heavily neglected and is left outside every night except for when used for illegal dog fighting. The cat is initially very hostile to the dog, but then grows to understand the dog's situation. At the end, the cat and dog escape and are adopted.

Trivia[]

• Black cats and pit bulls are the pets least likely to be adopted, due to stigma about bad luck and violence. They often end up euthanized since no one will adopt them, despite being healthy.
• The “fragile” sign on the kitten’s box points to him.
• Other signs that the pit bull was abused are that his ears are cropped and he ripped the head off a teddy bear (meaning that he was trained to kill).
• When the woman adopts the pets, the dog’s scars are still not completely faded.
• This film marks the third Pixar short to use 2D animation, followed by Your Friend the Rat and Day & Night, and the first short, and even to a larger extent, Pixar production to be entirely animated in 2D.
