US: Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door remake at #2, PS5 #1 console in May 2024

Mat Piscatella, analyst for Circana, which was formerly The NPD Group, has posted the latest sales data for video gaming software and hardware in the United States. What may surprise you is that this data isn’t for June, but for May. The remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door released in May, resulting in the game debuting at #2 on the charts. It is worth noting, however, that these are only for physical sales of the remake. The data doesn’t include digital sales.

As for hardware, the PlayStation 5 continues its hot streak, as it was the best-selling hardware platform in units and dollars for the month of May. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch was the second-best in units sold, while the Xbox Series was second in dollars. You can see the top 10 software video gaming charts down below.

  7. Minecraft
  8. Elden Ring
  9. Hogwarts Legacy

  1. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was the only new game released in the top 10. Let’s see if it can stick around for a while, some of the other games in the chart released years ago.

  2. I so hope that this means Nintendo will bring paper Mario back to its RPG roots. This has always been the strongest point of the series IMO. I thought origami king was OK. But due to the fact that there was no reward for battles, I just never wanted to fight. Just felt tedious.
