Manuscript Tracking System British Journal of Cancer

Referee Instructions

Thank you for reviewing for BJC. Our reviewers make an invaluable contribution to the high standard of the papers we publish and ensure the continuing success and popularity of our journal. We always welcome comments that can help us improve; please email us at bjc@springernature.com.

Navigating the System

When you first log into the system, you will be taken to your "Home" page. It will have different types of tasks. If you are required to perform a pending action item or task, there will be a red arrow next to a "Manuscript" link. After clicking on this link, you will be presented with a "Manuscript" screen containing:

  • Detailed information about the manuscript we have asked you to review.
  • Links to the manuscript and associated figures/images.
  • A list of "Manuscript Tasks" or links allowing you to:
    • Accept/Decline Reviewer Position.
    • Review a Manuscript
(All possible links will not be present at all times. Only the applicable links will be visible.)

If there are no red arrows visible on the "Home" page, then you are finished and have no outstanding tasks to complete.

If you think that you should have a task or access to a manuscript that you cannot see, please email the BJC Main Editorial Office - bjc@springernature.com giving the full details and if possible the manuscript number.

Review Manuscript

After accessing the system and accepting to review the paper, click on the 'Review Manuscript' link. Clicking on this link will display the "Review Manuscript" screen broken into the following parts:

  1. Manuscript background information.
  2. A review pop-down selection.
  3. Remarks to the author.
  4. Remarks to the editor/publisher only.

If you prefer to work offline, you may find it quickest to download and print the PDF file and associated image files, draft your review remarks using your favorite word processor and cut/paste it back into the reviewer remarks text area on this screen once complete. Please check carefully that everything you intended has been pasted in.

Adobe Acrobat

We recommend that for accessing the PDF files, best results are achieved if you have access to Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 (or above). Should you require installation of this FREE program, please download from the link here and follow the on-screen instructions. (We recommend that on completion of installation, you amend one of the default settings. Select: File - Preferences - General, and UNCHECK Web Browser Integration)
