SOLD: 222 Country Club Dr.

Country Club Main

What a great way for the Modern Asheville real estate  team to end 2013 by closing architect Bert King‘s own home where he lived for over 60 years. Thanks to Kelly, who brought a modern enthusiast and worked hard to assist the buyer in exploring the investment required to bring this house to a livable standard for today. The buyer is excited by the story and is intent on stewarding new life into it with one of our local modern architects and a team of trusted contractors. Kelly and I will be following the renovation and will keep you posted on the progress.

Country Club CompThe house has an open floor plan with great vintage lines. The original walnut kitchen cabinets are in great shape and styled for today. To see the virtual tour click here.

Give Kelly and I a call to put together some home ideas and teams to help meet your real estate dreams. And follow us along in 2014 through some modern renovations of two of our recent ranch home sales. Cheers!

Midland Drive Mid-Century

Yesterday, I took a moment, along with Kelly, to tour a favorite mid-century home in Lakeview Park during a broker hosted open house. As I have written about this sophisticated home previously, I wanted to simply offer a few quick snaps for you. The home provides a great, open backdrop for the owner’s art collection. Enjoy!

Town & Mountain Realty

I love finding a well preserved “Atomic” ranch house.  This one looks all original and is on a large flowing lot with a walk-out basement.  I have yet to see this one, but plan on previewing it soon.  Dana, the listing agent, says it has been meticulously cared for and the owner has all the original blueprints for the home.

Here is how the listing agents describes it. “Once you step into this spacious contemporary you won’t want to leave.  2340SF w/beautiful hardwoods on main level.  It is bright, airy and liveable.  12 closets, built-ins, whole house alarm, wood burning stove.  Finished 1598 SF basement is perfect in-law suite or game rm.  5 yr old roof, updated electric and plumbing, meticulously maintained.  3/4 acre for gardening and entertaining.”

If you want more information on this cool rancher or any other modern home in the Asheville area please give Troy Winterrowd a call at 828-545-8896.

Vintage Modern 02 – ScreenDoor

In continuing our tour of vintage modern dealers we find ourselves at the ScreenDoor in Asheville.  With over 25,000 sq.ft. of groovy goodness they feature antiques, new home decor, hand crafted items, books and vintage modern of course.  I found two or three booths of authentic modern furnishings, as well as, as few booths that cater to the industrial side of modern.  No matter what you are looking for you will find a lot of fun and creative ideas here to affordably furnish your swank pad.  Here is what you need to know:

Name: ScreenDoor

Location: 115 Fairview Road, Asheville

Hours: M-Sat. 10-5, Sun. 12-5

Vintage Modern 01 – Tobacco Barn

In a new series of articles I will be featuring retailers of vintage modern and mid-century (dare I use the word) antiques.  As hard as it is for me to say, midcentury is the latest in antique collectibles.  For those of us who feel at home in a “Brady Bunch” interior there are plenty of resources in the Asheville area if you know where to go.

I’ll begin with the Tobacco Barn which has 72 antique dealers under one roof.  I saw a handful of booths that focused on vintage modern.  Here is the information you need:

Name: Tobacco Barn

Location: on Swannanoa River Rd between Biltmore Village and the Asheville Mall

Hours: M-Th 10-6, Fri & Sat. 9-6, Sun 1-6

Under Construction – Ciel’s the “Bower House”

Incredible views and modern living combine to create a sexy, new escape in the mountains.  The community of Ciel which offers mountain and city views of Asheville is breaking ground on a dramatic new contemporary spec home.  Designed by Hunter Paul Coffey of Boone, NC, this 3500 sq/ft, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home will combine both earthy and modern materials to fully dramatize Ciel’s tagline “Feel the earth.  Touch the sky”

As you enter the front door you cross an interior bridge that focuses your view directly on Mt. Pisgah.  The main level splits to feature all your open living spaces on one side and a grand master suite on the other.  For those who want one level living this floor has everything you need to accomodate.  For those who need more you can descend to the lower level to find another family room with fireplace and 3 bedrooms/offices that all have views.

The exterior will be finished off with cedar siding in both 1 x4 and 1 x 10 sections along with areas of dry stacked stone.  The roof will be wide standing seam.  The transitional glazing from inside to outside will be made with Lincoln “Touch” windows.  The foyer will will have a retractable glass wall to the outide deck with fireplace.

The interior will feature oak flooring throughout and custom walnut cabinets.  Lux is doing the lighting design and fixture specifications.

As with all Ciel homes this contemporary will be NC HealthyBuilt.  It will include features such as Low E glass, passive solar considerations, rain water retention and a gravel drive.  The house will sell for 1.6 million when completed.  Stay posted as I will be posting updates on the construction of this home.
