Ceiling fans are always a topic of discussion when we tour homes with clients and one of the first things, along with light fixtures, to get changed out of homes to add a more modern aesthetic. AHBA After Hours | ProSource Supplies

ProSource Supplies hosted the Asheville Home Builders Association last night at their new modern showroom. Brandon Bryant of Red Tree Builders invited us along to check it out. {Thanks man!} If you haven’t been there make sure to stop by and see their vast selection of fixtures. Introducing East Fork Pottery’s Gas Fired Wares

East Fork Pottery held their introduction kiln sale this past weekend to debut their hand crafted housewares produced from the new gas fired kiln they recently acquired. The Danish Modern inspired line balances earthiness with cool clean lines evoking a timeless simplicity that transcends fashion for grounded functionality. As with any quality, modern craft the pieces are beautifully rich under the principle of “less is more”. While remaining local they are, at the same time, universal.

Alex Matisse, founder, and John Vigeland, CFO, are the leaders of the pottery studio supported by apprentices Amanda and Connie. Their studio is several stone throws to the west of Mars Hill nestled in the rustic atmosphere that has inspired generations of local craft folks. Prior to some meetings downtown I popped into the Blue Spiral. One of the current shows features a variety of their artists using works in Black and White only. Dwellings

I stopped by Dwellings yesterday while driving through Biltmore Village. Here are a few highlights of some of their contemporary furnishings within their design warehouse. Dwellings is open Wed-Sat from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from noon to 5pm. Stop by and browse their endless selection for something to warm up your nest this winter. Cheers!

Covet | Industrial Modern

There is nothing I like more than mid-century relics with a patina of rust or layers of paint. Items from the industrial 20th century seem to get my attention. Perhaps it’s a more manly or utilitarian version of modern. Delicate furnishings don’t last well in my domain. Industrial strength is a requirement. Thus, you find I store my t-shirts in old military filing cabinets and my kitchen cutting board sits atop a repurposed, 5o’s school projector cart.

It is a popular style here and there are many places one can find it in Asheville. One of those is Covet’s booth at the Screen Door. From old lockers, manufacturing cabinets, laboratory equipment and old signage they have it covered. We recently stopped by to catch up with Robert Nicholas, Asheville’s King of Upcycling. We always enjoy a stroll through his shop. Robert has a distinctive eye for picking vintage objects and crafting light fixtures that defy conventional scale and textures. The same keen eye curates the shops collection of curiosities that creates a sense of discovery and fun for guests. No doubt — he is the master of his domain! Dwellings | Warm Modern Furnishings

Kelly and I stopped into Dwellings today following our monthly partner lunch. We always enjoy visiting. With a warehouse big enough for roller skates one can browse endlessly through room vignettes of both rustic and modern furnishings for every room in your house. As always, they feature furnishings with clean lines and warm textures. So, if you are looking for modern furnishings you can cuddle up with or that wear like your favorite pair of slippers make it your next destination. Cool has never been so comfortable. Cheers!
