Age of Khonshu[]

Khonshu had visions of the Council of Red, a legion of super Satans. Out of fear, he had Moon Knight steal the powers of the Avengers to conquer the Earth and and kill Mephisto. The Council of Red retaliated, though after taking the powers for himself, Khonshu was able to defeat and slay the invaders.^[3]

Heroes Reborn[]

With a Pandemonium Cube, Mephisto of Earth-616 demonstrated to the Council how much reality could be changed with the power of just one Mephisto before asking them how much they could do when they combined their power.^[4]

Multiversal Masters of Evil[]

Mephisto arranged the formation of the time-travelling Multiversal Masters of Evil to ravage the prehistoric Avengers from Earths across the Multiverse, under the single condition that Earth-616 must be saved for last.^[2] While the Masters of Evil were busy wrecking other Earths, the Council of Red attacked different iterations of the Avengers throughout Earth-616's history and the modern Avengers followed with their Celestial teleporter/time machine.^[5]

Avengers Assemble[]

Finally, the Masters of Evil began their attack on Earth-616's history at the same time the modern Avengers went to visit their prehistoric Avengers, thus beginning the final stages for the Council of Red's plan. After capturing the Avenger Prime, the Council launched a full assault on the God Quarry so they could take it over.^[6] While there, the Mephistos began digging into the Quarry to reach the First Firmament.^[1]

After the Council was repelled,^[7] Mephisto of Earth-616 was attacked by the other members of the Council. Having siphoned energy from universes ruined by the Masters of Evil, he was able to absorb the other Mephistos to become a gigantic, mutated version of himself and began pounding into the Quarry with his increased strength.^[8] When the Quarry finally shattered,^[9] Mephisto revealed his true goal: the end of all of existence, including himself. However, the Avengers managed to seal the hole before everything was erased.^[10]

Pandemonium Cube

• Earth-616 is special to the Council.^[2] As Mephisto notes, some say that "616" is the true number of the beast.^[11]
• Several of the Mephistos of the Council of Red are pop-culture references to characters such as Sauron from The Lord of the Rings, Godzilla, Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen King's IT, Ursula from Disney's The Little Mermaid, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Hellboy, Scar from The Lion King, and the Marvel Family, and Mr. Mxyzptlk from DC Comics.
