Translate WordPress

You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

Don’t see your language? You can request support for it.

Weekly Meetings

Following the traditions of the past few years and in recognition of the International Translation Day which is celebrated on 30 September, this post is to officially begin the discussion, planning as well as execution of the WordPress Translation Day for 2022. Thanks to @tobifjellner for initiating the discussion with a P2 which allowed the community to share their preference and with a vast majority rooting for the event to be celebrated on September 28 this year.

Since the pandemic, most of the events have been online with many localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ celebrating the day with mini-events. Last year the Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/. celebrated Translation Month which consisted of multiple local and global events leading up to September 30 for a live stream to recap the celebration. Additionally, the Polyglots team also recognized contributors with Polyglots Appreciation Nominees.

My locale should arrange an offline event in a specific location and provide the opportunity for others to join online
How can more contributors interact with the event?
Share the event announcement on all social media and helpful WordPress groups.
How can you contribute to making this event better?
I can assist in event promotion and refer other contributors to join the event and make it successful.

I think it would be great to arrange a local translation day, where interested folks from the local community come together to translate stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. in our language.
How can more contributors interact with the event?
We can have a fun Q&A session during the event where contributors share their experiences when translating for the WordPress Project, share their favorite tools for translation, tips & tricks etc.
How can you contribute to making this event better?
If it is possible I would love to work on the blog post that will cover this event. I noticed there was a post recapping the event from last year, and would love to help write the one for this year too.

What do you think went well in the past few years?
Having a mini-site or a post with all the info about the global sessions and encouraging the local communities to submit their local mini-events. Also the stats of what was accomplished by the teams.
A map with the mini-events was really awesome!

What do you think we can improve?
Maybe prepare a template page on WPTranslationsDay.org to repopulate with this info every year.

The Portuguese Community will have a translation meetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Teasing the local communities to have mini-events, and adding them to the main global event.
