Openverse Monthly Priorities Meeting 2024-02-07

Completed projects
- (Moved to Success) ECS alarms for anomalous behavior – The alarms have been deemed stable, the runbooks were all created, and this project is now a success!
In progress projects
- Search relevancy sandbox – Code work is proceeding on this, with only a few more tasks remaining. We'll move this to "shipped" once the DAGs are merged, and "success" once we've been able to successfully run each of them.
- (Moved from On-hold) Additional search views – With the Nuxt 3 migrationMigration Moving the code, database and media files for a website site from one server to another. Most typically done when changing hosting companies. now on hold and the code freeze lifted, work on this project can resume. There's only a bit of code work left, along with some discussions about analytics events that might be affected by the new views.
- (Moved from On-hold) Clearly document all media properties – The implementation of the first IP for the catalog is to be prioritized over the writing of the second IP for the APIAPI An API or Application Programming Interface is a software intermediary that allows programs to interact with each other and share data in limited, clearly defined ways. and the frontend.
- (Moved from In RFC) Sensitive content report moderation workflow – The first bolus of work around code/copy changes will be finished this week, and the plan for the next bolus was approved and merged last week. The last three IPs are currently either in review or being drafted. We should begin to prioritize any implementation work related to this as part of our weekly development meetings alongside the other projects.
- (Moved from In RFC) Move Openverse API and catalog to openverse.org subdomains – The IP for this work was approved, so implementation has begun. There are lots of small tickets here for folks to work on.
- (Moved to On-hold) Nuxt 3 migration – We were unable to get Nuxt 3 working without running into massive data leaks. We're taking a pause on this work until April, at which point we'll re-assess the approach and put forward a formal IP. Until then, we may keep the branch alive while we assist the libraries with testing code on a larger application.
Up next
- (Moved to In Kickoff) Data normalization – We discussed the scope of this project and decided that it will need to be reframed before work can proceed on it. The best approach would be to update the project thread and create a new project proposal, with the goal of the project being: eliminate the data cleaning step on the data refresh.
- Dark Mode – Design work has begun on this! That work is preliminary though, so we won't update the status until we're ready to move forward with the project proposal.
