1. Welcome, introduction, new contributors

a. These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and to assist with an asynchronous contribution to the Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting due to timezone issues, please do join the discussion threads after the meeting and send your updates.

b. On 24 February 2021 the team had drop-in hours with task updates in lieu of a full meeting, as we had a number of team reps unavailable and others working on team deadlines.

2. Meeting Notes

A big thanks to @meher and @lmurillom, for contributing to drafting, follow ups and actions from last week’s meeting notes. Note: Please review and add comments in suggestion mode – link in the Slack. These notes will be updated as appropriate.

A reminder to check the draft notes is circulated at the meeting every week. Please review and check your WordPress.org ID is listed on collaborations that you have actively contributed too. We rely on this to update the final notes and to put into our charts to show where we need extra contributors, and how we are having an input and impact onto the work assigned / requested from other teams.

3. Tasks, Working Groups, and Team Celebration

Task Updates

Social Media Promotions: #LearnWP, #OnlineWPMeetup

  1. A big thank you to everyone working on this cycle of promotions and planning. 
  2. This week’s #OnlineWPMeetup roundup post is on LinkedIn
  3. This week and next we are promoting the FSE Outreach Program’s second call for testing.
    We are working on social media planning for #LearnWP which will start in the following weeks and continue through the next quarters.
  4. We have given feedback on the discussion regarding companies in Learn WordPress materials from a communications and marketing perspective. @harryjackson1221 will be exploring similarities in the discussions and solutions that have taken place with Showcase.Thanks to @carike, @courane01 and @azhiyadev for inviting members who are in both marketing and training to also help with the discussion on this.
  5. Volunteers for help with editing graphics: we had some volunteers be nominated or come forward. The relevant team members have reached out to them on this and we hope to be able to get them started soon. There are still opportunities with this.
  6. @geheren will be helping with the video editing, and we are waiting for some changes on timings and the final brand images so we work on this.

  • If you have a ‘Mega MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area.’, with 3 or more Meetups joining forces, please let us know in the #marketing channel and we will promote. 
  • We need more people to help with the #LearnWP updates, if you have experience of social media management for a brand or campaign, or in video editing and can help, let us know! 
  • You can share our weekly highlight of WordPress Meetup events and news on the Marketing Team LinkedIn Page. If you haven’t already, please follow it.

Contributor Support Sessions

  • To facilitate both new and existing contributors, the WordPress Marketing team has started a series of induction and onboarding sessions under the title “Contribution Made Fun & Easy”. So far, we have hosted two of these sessions.
  • These contributor support sessions are open to new contributors and  those are returning to the team and wanting a refresher and to those who have pledged to contribute under Five for the Future.

Newsletters/Month in WordPress

  • We submit regularly to the Month in WordPress newsletter. We have set marketing deadlines for WordPress Meetup newsletter and Month in WordPress deadline dates, into the Marketing Team calendar.

People of WordPress

  • We are finalizing a schedule of work on this series for the rest of the year. Thanks to Surendra, @lmurillom and others who are working on March and April’s articles already.

  • If you have a strong editorial background and have expressed an interest in this area, let us know if the commitment for this series fits with your current availability, and we will be pleased to allocate you within the planning rota.

Calendar cycle of promotions on Make Teams

  • This task expands on the new year’s resolution task and helps build content for next year. It also assists contributor events, including WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Europe later this year.
  • For this task, each team has a contributor dayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. or event page in their handbook on the Make WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ site and other resources you can use. It is a task you can work on asynchronously and we have a briefing.

  • If you can help with this task, which is also a great way to learn more about what teams do, let us know. There is lots of support available for this task so great for new or returning contributors too.

4. Collaborations and Planning
Full Site Editing (FSE) Collaboration

Task:  We have been working on raising awareness and understanding of Full Site Editing (FSE) within the Marketing Team and continuing some of our research.

This collaboration will continue asynchronously. Collaboration document in this link.

Actions:

  • We will continue to add to the shared document asynchronously.  Please add your name and WordPress ID to the document and start contributing!

5. Forthcoming Diary Dates

If you need accessibility or language support to participate in any of our work and meetings, please let one of the team reps know in the marketing channel on Slack. We are keen to continue to try and help and promote inclusion and diversity in the team.

Following feedback and surveys, we are changing the Global Marketing meeting time to accommodate as many people as possible.

  • 6 January 2021 to 24 March 2021 inclusive, 15:00 UTC
  • 31 March 2021 until 31st October 2021 inclusive, 14:00 UTC
  • 3 November 2021 until Daylight Saving Time change in Europe, 15:00 UTC
