Housekeeping

• @wazeter mentioned this ticket about standardising hover effects (#48590), the goal of which relates to our custom properties project

CSSCSS Cascading Style Sheets. Custom Properties (#49930)

• @dryanpress reported that @circlecube has updated comments on his PRs and has been pinged about outstanding merge conflicts
• @dryanpress is working on .customize-controls.css, continuing @robertg’s extensive work on this 3000 line file
• @wazeter and @dryanpress reflected on the Custom Property project’s ongoing achievements, made possible by the many generous contributors
• @dryanpress restated some points from last week’s meeting:
  • custom-properties.css needs organising and the addition of a table of contents
  • box-shadow declarations should be put into custom property
  • This is still the first-pass – there will be further consolidation of the custom-properties

• @wazeter volunteered to facilitate next week’s meeting, on Thursday October 14 at 21:00 UTC
• @dryanpress shared a link to Rich Tabor’s post on building Fluid Type Scales in the Theme.json
• @dryanpress shared a link to the Twenty Twenty-Two project which promises to be the first default WordPress theme built for full-site editing and styled with theme.json – very exciting progress!
• @wazeter shared a screengrab of his navigation and logo group block, an exploration using grid-template-areas for a responsive layout without resorting to a hamburger menu

• @dryanpress and @wazeter continued with a long, interesting chat encompassing the Tove theme’s header block pattern, the self-deception of “mobile first design”, the pros and cons of the nav blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience., CSS Grid and Tailwind’s Grid Template Columns, and WordPress & the blockchain
