Community Team Contributor Roles

Community Team Event Supporters and Program Supporters often deal with sensitive information and situations. To serve in these roles, contributors must represent the WordPress community in a positive way and are asked to sign an agreement that they will keep information confidential.

Event Supporter

Event Supporters are volunteers who have experience with WordPress Community events and want to help other organizers. The primary goal of this role is to mentor event organizers throughout the planning process. Drawing on their own past experience and Community Team documentation, Event Supporters meet regularly with the event organizer who they are mentoring. Experience Required:

  • Familiarity with and/or a love of WordPress
  • Desire to meet other people who love WordPress
  • Effective communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Reliability
  • Finish the two required training courses

Many events are in English, but if you are able to mentor in other languages, let us know. You can be a huge help as we grow our global community!

Experience Required Specifically to Mentor a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Time Commitment: Flexible, at least 2 hours per month.

Program Supporters

Community Team Program Supporters are experienced community members with in-depth knowledge of meetups and WordCamps. Primary responsibilities of a Program SupporterProgram Supporter Community Program Supporters (formerly Deputies) are a team of people worldwide who review WordCamp and Meetup applications, interview lead organizers, and keep things moving at WordCamp Central. Find more about program supporters in our Program Supporter Handbook. include: Vet meetup applications, interview applicants, lead organizer orientations, vet WordCamp applications, provide guidance on budgets prior to a budget review, and assist with other administrative tasks as desired.

Program Supporters also respond to organizer questions in the #community-team Slack channel (join the Making WordPress Slack instance).

Note: The WordPress community primarily communicates in English, but we enthusiastically welcome Program Supporters who can help in other languages.

Experience Required:

  • All Program Supporters are expected to have past experience organizing local WordCamp(s) or Meetups
  • Familiarity with the WordPress community
  • Effective communication skills
  • Friendly and welcoming attitude
  • Have completed the two required training courses
  • Have obtained three references from Community Team Program Supporters and/or Program Managers (see the list of currently active program supporters).

Time Commitment: Flexible, often at least an hour or two per week.p
