well the dead serious answer is that accusing someone of something that’s reliably considered as indefensibly vile by much of society, such as molesting children, is a great way to socially isolate that person by making others wary of affiliating with them (even if the accusations are false, do you want to risk being friends with someone who some people will inevitably still think molested children?) and also seemingly validates putting that under intensive scrutiny, since being intensely critical of any perceived sexual misconduct then becomes a matter of protecting The Children from a potential.
there’s also the fact that a lot of people, even self-proclaimed progressive people, have absolutely no handle on their disgust response and automatically affiliate anyone who engages in any sexual activity that grosses them out - whether it’s pet play, bondage, scst, or just queer people fucking - with every other sexual transgression they can think of, including abuse against children.
Also not to mention that if people just generally don’t like you or some stance you have and they need to find a way to shut you up random accusations, ostracizing, and public humiliation are all great ways to do that. Easiest way to do that? Bring up your sex life and personal interests. Take it to an extreme that people can’t just brush off. Because yeah having weird kink is weird. But that can rightfully be brushed off and people could look at you and question what you’re doing focusing on someone else’s sex life because rightfully that’s weird and none of your business.
But you know how to make sure people don’t care about someone else’s privacy and won’t question why you’re focused on someone else’s kinks? Accuse them of the most extreme side that will bring out not only people’s disgust but fear and anger as well. Suddenly it doesn’t matter that you were exposing their privacy and things that shouldn’t matter
