Infinite Scroll

Automatically display next posts to your readers, so they can keep browsing without having to click.

Instead of having to click a link to get to the next set of posts, infinite scrolling pulls the next posts smoothly into view when the reader approaches the bottom of the page.

NOTE: Jetpack Infinite Scroll is not supported for block themes.

Most non-block themes have Infinite Scroll support built in. To check to see if your non-block theme supports Infinite Scroll, follow these steps:

  1. Go to JetpackSettingsWriting in your site’s Dashboard
  2. Check the “Theme enhancements” section.
  3. Choose between these options:
    • Load more posts using the default theme behavior
    • Load more posts in page with a button
    • Load more posts as the reader scrolls down
  4. Click Save settings.

If your website’s theme does not have Infinite Scroll support built in, you will see a notice that says “Theme support required.” check our developer documentation about adding Infinite Scroll to your theme.

Troubleshoot Infinite Scroll

I have Infinite Scroll set to Load more posts as the reader scrolls down, but instead it shows an “Older Posts” button.

If you have Infinite Scroll set to Load more posts as the reader scrolls down, but instead it shows an “Older Posts” button, check if your theme has footer widgets.

If you have any widgets in the footer widget area, Infinite Scroll will use the “Older Posts” button automatically, to ensure that the footer widgets remain visible.

If you want posts to load as you scroll down, place widgets in an alternative widget area, such as the sidebar. If your theme has only footer widget areas, we recommend looking for a different theme with more widget area options.

Privacy Information

Infinite Scroll is deactivated by default. If you ever need to activate it, toggle the Load more posts using the default theme behavior setting in the Theme enhancements section at Jetpack — Settings — Writing.
