“When I started working at Roundforest, Gil was our go-to. Architecture, deployment, errors, bugs - you name it. If you have a technical question, Gil has the answer. BUT! He won’t just give it to you. He will go through a process, together with you, in order for you to have the ability to manage it by yourself the next time. Gil knows how to build complex software solutions. Gil knows how to build engineering organizations. Gil knows how to empower other engineers. Gil is a true mentor. When Gil told us he was leaving Roundfrest, we realized we could manage it ourselves. Not because there weren’t any problems, but primarily thanks to Gil who led us to that point. So if you want to build an engineering organization, or improve an existing one, in such a way that the architecture, the code base, and the (maybe most important thing) staff are both fast and reliable - you should definitely have Gil on your side. By the way, he is super nice, he always listens to what the other engineers have to say (even if they are totally inexperienced) and he is one of the major reasons I came to work at Roundforest.”

An Ode to Node: Testing Frontend the Backend Way
ReactNext 2016
Testing Frontend code is painful. You can either do small unit tests that don't check a lot, or you have to use automation tools to test your code in a living browser. There is a third alternative, which can be a very natural way to test your code - run your frontend code under Node! The benefits are enormous - simple debugging, no need for transpiling and bundling, and no need to raise a server to run the tests.

Cultural Learnings of Testing for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Startup
Wix Engineering Tech Talks
"Developer Testing", or "Testing" in short, is crucial for any company that does software.
It is crucial not only for the development-side of the company, but is also crucial for the business side of the company.
In this talk Gil explains, in a non-technical manner, why everybody in the company should make "Testing" a priority of the software development process. -
Talk - How to Build a Micro-services Infrastructure In 7 Days
CodeMotion World
On December 2015, during an internal Wix Hackathon, we decided to rewrite our aging Micro-services infrastructure. This is our story. In this story, we will see how to build a modern infrastructure that enables you to deploy a self-servicing grid of computers on which micro-services can run and discover one another. Most Micro-services talk discuss culture, or technology, or motivations. I will be showing how to build one using off the shelf components like Mesos and nginx.

From Callback Hell to Async Heaven - Promises
Wix Engineering Tech Talks
Come with me as I bring you to Node world, and lead you from the pit of callback despair, up to the purgatorio of promises, and finishes in async heaven - using generators and yields to make async code look like sync code.

Old Gods & New: A Vision of Backend & Frontend
You Gotta Love Frontend
What would happen if we gave front-end developers the task of building a backend server that caters to their needs? What would it do? What capabilities would it have? How would it be different from the current backend servers, built by backend developers? I explore the possibilities and try to envision a future where the front-end developers are in charge of the servers that serve their own front-end code.
