Details[]
It is set in the Forgotten Realms setting, in the Icewind Dale region and adjacent Spine of the World mountains in the north-west corner of Faerûn.
Starting on Mirtul 2, 1281 DR, the "Year of the Cold Soul", it takes place roughly 90 years before the events of Baldur's Gate.
Later, complete editions were published. The game also received a sequel, Icewind Dale II.
Heart of Winter[]

An expansion followed, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, which added – and changed – many things, including a completely new campaign and several areas, items, spells and creatures.
Trials of the Luremaster[]

The last patch for Heart of Winter was a further expansion by it's own, Icewind Dale: Trials of the Luremaster, which again added a couple of areas and more things.
Enhanced Edition[]

The Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is a re-release of the complete edition, including the base game and its two expansions, with – among other things – enhanced visuals, restored cut content and many bugfixes.
