As I mentioned in my previous post “5 Gems of Costa Brava”, no doubt you are wondering where to stay in the Costa Brava region. I stayed at Clipper Hotel & Villas. It’s ideally located near several destinations in Costa Brava, but still feels secluded and private. This quaint, peaceful resort in Toroella de Montgrí was a perfect countryside escape from the bustle of Lloret del Mar.
It’s easy to rent a car and drive to the cities I mentioned last week, or take a train journey to Barcelona for the day. There are three golf courses nearby, making this the golf lovers dream location.
To get an idea of how far each city is:
Cadaques: 57.1km, 1 hour drive.
Girona: 33kms away – about 40 minutes drive
Peratallada: 12.7 km, 15 minutes drive.
Torroella De Montgrí town center- 15 minutes drive.
Barcelona is an hour, 45 minutes drive, the route is similar by train.
I was blown away by the beauty of this peaceful little resort. Clipper boasts 39 rooms, and 10 villas which cater to everybody’s needs. In each room there is a little kitchenette, furnished with a mini refrigerator, dishes, a little stove, and a sink.
There are two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, jacuzzi, a gym, and my personal favorite – the sauna. Perfect for some relaxation after a long day walking.
I was so impressed with the friendliness and dedication of the hotel staff. Their concierge Manuel, is absolutely charming – I always knew my day would brighten just by his positive attitude. I never caught him on a bad day, and he remained unfazed by any request I threw at him. Nancy, the hotel manager, went out of her way to make my stay comfortable. On the first day I arrived, I had missed lunch, and the hotel’s restaurant was closed. She personally went into the kitchen and grabbed me a quick lunch, so I wouldn’t be hungry. I was amazed by her kindness, and her welcoming attitude. She is the best hotel manager I have ever come across; I have never met anyone like her who was so concerned about her guest being comfortable and happy at the resort. Fatima, the resort’s chef, is so talented, I was constantly impressed by the calibre of the dishes she consistently created each night. I personally loved that many dishes were gluten free, and labeled as such on the menu. It made dinnertime so much easier. The Catamarán restaurant is known for it’s four star dishes; in fact, people travel far and wide to dine here. Everything we tried was fresh, bright, and creative.
The Catamaran Dining room is lovely, with an exterior outdoor dining space that overlooks the pool. Perfect for relaxing, drinking some wine and indulging in a three course meal.
There is an undeniable charm when it comes to the Clipper Hotel & Villas, you feel like you are worlds away. You truly get a sense of what life would be like in the countryside; it was my oasis for a week. With the friendly locals and resort staff, you cannot help but fall in love with the Spanish countryside. I am already planning my next trip back to this hotel, this time with my family.
Disclaimer: I was given a weeks stay at Clipper Hotel & Villas as a part of the Post TBEX trips. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I absolutely adored this place, and cannot wait to return someday.
