This new initiative is meant to inform students and families about the importance of completing the FAFSA.

Last week, Governor Kathy Hochul officially declared April as Financial Aid Awareness Month in New York State. The initiative is meant to inform students and families about the importance of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other financial aid options available. There will be several efforts to help students pursue a higher education degree:

  • Letters sent home to high school seniors encouraging them to complete their FAFSA application and take full advantage of financial aid programs
  • The City University of New York (CUNY) has been given $1 million by the Petrie Foundation to launch CUNY Financial Aid Support Team (FAST). This initiative will help 100,000 students complete the FAFSA
  • On April 3, the 2024 New York State STEM Incentive Program application launched to support New York State students pursuing a STEM degree at any SUNY or CUNY campus. Applicants must also agree to live and work in New York State for five years after graduation.

A list of events that will help students navigate the financial aid process more easily
