Lenapehoking
Appearance
Lenapehoking was the name the Lenape Indians gave to the region they inhabited around present day New York Harbor, including the five boroughs of New York City. In the Algonquin language of the Lenape, it meant "the place where the Lenape dwell."
Lenapehoking stretched from northern New Jersey to present day Long Island and Connecticut. The Lenape formed no permanent settlements in the area, but moved seasonally from one encampment to another. They traveled throughout the region by the extensive waterways and trails.
