The Carnegie Corporation was founded by the will of Andrew Carnegie in 1911 to "promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding." It is the tenth of twelve

Based on an initial 135-million dollar grant, the Corporation is now worth 1.9 billion dollars. At its current rate, it gives away 80 million per year; thus, if the Corporation ceased making a profit today, it would be able to continue its charitable works for another 23 years.
