Revision as of 17:55, 12 June 2008

Group B of the 2008 UEFA European Championships is one of four groups of competing nations at UEFA Euro 2008. The first of the three rounds of matches were played on 8 June, and the final round will be completed on 16 June. All six of the group's matches will be played at venues in Austria, in Vienna and Klagenfurt. The group is made up of four central European nations; co-hosts Austria, as well as Croatia, Germany and Poland. Austria and Poland are appearing in a European Championship finals for the first time.

The group was opened in Vienna by Austria's 1-0 defeat to Croatia, with Luka Modric scoring an early penalty. Despite creating numerous chances and putting the Croatian defence under considerable pressure towards the end, the co-hosts failed to grab an equaliser. That evening, tournament favourites Germany secured a 2-0 victory over old rivals Poland, who were beaten by two goals from Polish-born Lukas Podolski.
