The History ofLearn WordPress

  • Started as a resource for Meetup organizers
  • The main content audience switched from instructors to learners through the pandemic
  • Content types increased
  • Continues to grow as the WordPress project’s official educational website

#WCEU

2013

Meetup organizers started to voice a need for new ideas for their meetups.

Lesson plans were developed as a resource organizers could use to host Meetups with little preparation.

#WCEU

13 of 39

Lesson plans were based on American educational principals.

They were created for settings where Meetup organizers would instruct on WordPress features etc.

They were managed and made available on GitHub.

2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person events decreased around the world.

A need arose for an official WordPress learning space that would replace Meetups.

The need for instructor resources decreased, while the need for new learner-focused content types increased.

Learn WordPress was born.
