Media optimization settings

Settings for optimizing media uploaded via the app can be found under MeApp Settings.

There is a balance to be had between uploading images at full quality and optimizing them to ensure they load as quickly as possible. We recommend referring to our guide here for further guidance and best practices around optimizing media.

Image optimization

Images uploaded to the Jetpack app are optimized by default.

The default maximum resolution for optimized images is 2000 x 2000px. In addition, medium level compression is applied. These defaults generally strike a good balance between quality, upload speed, and the amount of time images take to load for your site’s visitors.

It’s possible to modify the default optimization settings for images at any time. These are the settings that can be changed:

  • Optimize Images: If this option is toggled off then images will be uploaded at their original size and quality. When on, it’s possible to edit the maximum upload size and quality for images.
  • Max Image Upload Size: Images larger than the size set via this setting will be automatically resized as part of the upload process. By default, 2000 x 2000px is applied.
  • Image Quality: Images are usually converted to JPEG format depending on their original image format when uploading. This setting allows you to control the JPEG quality applied. By default, a medium level (80% quality) is applied.

If you notice that your images are uploading slowly, you may wish to experiment with a lower setting in Max Image Upload Size or Image Quality. In addition, if the quality of your images is important for your site, you can select a higher quality settings.

Video optimization

Videos, unlike images, are not currently optimized by default.

To change the default upload size for either iOS or Android, navigate to the MeApp Settings.

For Android, you’ll also find the option of selecting a default quality, which will define whether or not compression is applied to upload videos.
