Hey, you smell that fresh air? Yeah, you should savor that for as long as possible. No, I mean it. I had tacos for lunch. So enjoy the fresh air while you can.

Croque (タイシ, Taishi?) is a cranky frog villager who first appeared in New Leaf. His name is derived from the onomatopoeia "croak", which is a noise commonly thought to be made by a frog. He has the nature hobby.

Croque's appearance is based on Daruma-Taishi or Bodhidharma, an Indian monk born the prince of a country in southern India in the mid-5th century. Bodhidharma is also the inspiration for the traditional Daruma dolls in Japanese culture, represented in game as the dharma set.

Croque is a orange-red frog with a white face. He has a black goatee, but a mustache similar to Cousteau's, except it is turned inward. His eyes hold a constantly angry or irritated expression, matching his cranky attitude. The tips of Croque's limbs are a mustard color, along with the circles around his eyes. He wears the imperial shirt in New Leaf and the silk shirt in New Horizons.

Personality

Below is a brief description of the cranky personality. For more information, click here.

Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Croque will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature.

House[]

In New Leaf, Croque's house takes on the appearance of an autumnal forest, with some Japanese references. He has two tall clankoids by the entrance, and has all the furniture from the zen garden set which consist of: two tall lanterns, a bonfire, a deer scare, an outdoor bath, and three tree standees that are lined up at the back of the room. If he receives a stereo through any means, it will be playing K.K. Jongara.

In New Horizons, his house still looks much like an autumnal forest. He has a pile of leaves working as a campfire. He also has a stone basin with autumn leaves in the water. Next to the fire, he has an autumn leaf stool and a bale of hay on top of straw flooring. His house also features a DIY workbench and a bamboo speaker. There are three fall trees lining the back wall of his house. The wall and floor look like a forest in the fall.
