Introduction to KML Files

This article will explain the basics of KML files. What they are, how can you upload them, and how to add KML files to a Google Map.

Please Note: KML files will not load on a local host, it needs to be tested on the live server.

What are KML Files? #

According to developers.google.com “KML is a file format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser such as Google Earth. You can create KML files to pinpoint locations, add image overlays, and expose rich data in new ways. KML is an international standard maintained by the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC).”

Where can you upload KML files in Agile Store Locator WordPress? #

KML files can be uploaded through the “Customize Map” page. Furthermore, on this page, you can upload a KML file in the “KML Files” section.

Where KML files are stored in the Store Locator? #

Store locator saves all the uploaded KML files into the wp-content/uploads directory, below is the full path of the directory, if you want to automate it, all you need is to push your KML files to the directory below.

/wp-content/uploads/agile-store-locator/kml/

How to Include KML files on Google Maps? #

To include the KML files in your Google Map, you have to write down the attribute kml=”1″ in the shortcode, as shown below:
