Suggestion Perhaps you could combine AutoID with Extendcraft, which increases the number of ids to way more than anyone would ever need. I can't remember the exact number, but it's a lot. Then you can program AutoID to just sort new mods into the next available id slot, because there should always be room. Naturally I don't know if any of this is possible, because I no Java, but if this isn't something you've already considered then perhaps it might be a possible solution to your problem.
Auto ID is already programmed with certain functions that blends well with Minecraft Extended ( it's not called ExtendCraft). The theoretical limit of Minecraft Extended is 1024 for block Ids. The Item Ids are simply stretched out farther to make room for the new block ids. Auto Id comes along with a file that generates when you first run minecraft(w/ AutoID installed). The file is located in your "minecraft" folder at this location. "minecraft/mods/AutoID_Alloc/config.txt". Open this file and you'll find two variables: minID and maxID.
Set them to the following:
For Minecraft Extended: minID= 96 | maxID= 1024 (if that dosen't work use 1023)
For Vanilla: (KEEP THE SAME)
Hope that helped. I'm adding a lot more functionality / compatibility with Smith61's current version of MinecraftExtended. However, I haven't gotten in contact with him yet, and am hoping that he'll release a 1.6.6 / 1.7 update of MCE soon to speed up the AutoID 1.2 release.

hmm, I haven't heard any complaints yet on the 1.6.6 update... could you try and be more specific as to what the problem is? Does your minecraft crash? Is Auto ID actually installed(check by looking in the "mods" folder and see if a folder called AutoID_Alloc" is installed. Make sure you didn't install ANY mods that use the "un.class" as Auto ID is based around this class.
I hope others haven't been experiencing these issues.. and please let me know if you are.

The 1.2 update i've been working on will fix Item IDS as well(Even though it's VERY rare to have an item ID conflict).. Until then, you'll have to fix the Item IDs manually.. either by editing the code of the mods you want(and recompiling them), or the easy way: editing the mod's properties file(if it has one).

unless he used the same code (autoid/alloc) functions and classes, he's not doing anything wrong. I mean.. it sucks, but his is a manual auto id changer(eliminates the need for property files) but Auto ID is for automatic, care-free, and compatible ID changing.

Thank you all for your support. You don't know what it means to me. I just recently took a programming position at a small company, developing games and software. I'm still busy, but this gives me the resources to continue developing / learning how to code Java. In fact, one of my co-workers/programmers is a minecraft modder, and has assisted with the code a bit. I promise it'll be worth the wait. I am hesitant to release a public download until all bugs are fixed. When dealing with a mod that changes IDs actively/dynamically a lot of things can go wrong(corrupt saves etc). I just wanna make sure I release a solid / functional update for all of you nice Minecrafties.

I was thinking of the Auto ID mod and the ID's of the other mods I've installed changes when I add a new one.
If the first use of the Auto ID mod generated a settings file storing the new block/item ID's and referencing
the settings file first to make sure that the block/item ID's are the same each time to avoid conflict.
I am looking forward to AutoID v1.2 very much. I use v1.1 right now and it is very nice to not have to poke around in props files to stop conflicting blocks. When paired with MCExtended, it is truly a match made in heaven!
I had a question though: Is there any way to get the XRay mod to work with AutoID? They both use un.class and while I have looked at trying to merge them, I am nowhere near experienced enough with Minecraft modding to do so. (Case in point, I decompiled and compared the un.class files from both XRay and AutoID, but the XRay un.class had some variables named '???' - I have no farking clue what that means, obfuscation maybe?)
Cant you just save the IDs into a txt file.
Say start from id 100 at 1st run. Push all ids as they come in into 100+, at the end when all IDs are loaded, Change the start point to lastID + 1,
then everytime the game is run it would not realocate IDs,
When a new mod is then put it, It allocates the ID from the next Start point.
(Say you load 25 blocks first run.)
(slot 100- 125 will be filled)
(it wont randomise if no new mods are installed)
(when a new mod is installed it will put the Id at the last point + 1 which is 126)
(So that should solve your problem.)

Ill wait for a bit before installing the mods. though i will download the plank mod. IF i make a retexture for it, i will be sure to post it up here, or pm it to you. It will most likely be for dokucraft though (since thats what im using atm.) But eh.. variety is always better :biggrin.gif:

i hope you get auto id working it will be big i know ill use it alot i would have 50 mods installed if it weren't for me having to change the ids but don't forget to make it minecraft extended compatible
