We have a list of spawn locations we are working on.

Perhaps you guys could do a step by step tutorial for people who want to make larger version of single countries?
There's really no possible way to make a step by step. Unless you know python really well I'd say it's pretty near impossible to do it how we did.

The weekend is over... I hate when developers of any kind set a launch date and then disappear without saying ANYTHING for too much time.
To you and everyone else complaining about an update: chill. I'm not sure we ever set a launch date to begin with. We were trying to get things done by the weekend, but couldn't. As our list of things to do grew, so did the time required. Keep in mind EVERYTHING we are coding has NEVER been done the way we are doing it, so EVERYTHING must be 100% from scratch. Not only did we hit some technical problems, but I also had to deal with a personal emergency.
We will release it when we finish it, that is my official launch time.
I appreciate everyone who likes the map! Thanks so much for showing us support! If y'all run into any problems we have not addressed, be sure to let me know.
Just....Found...This....OMFG ITS AWESOME.
But.
Just ONE But.
Is There ANY Way To perhaps make a version with the north pole as the center, and the continents arranged around it?
Or some kind of map like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dymaxion_map
Like its arranged on this site http://teczno.com/faumaxion-II/
I just think it would be really cool instead of having it cylinder shaped.
Otherwise, Thank you VERY MUCH
Ima download it right this second.
Do you know how many people are suffering as you sit infront of your computer over there? How many people dont have drinking water, or a roof to sleep under... and your gonna make jokes about it. People like you don't deserve to breathe.
I actually think its funny. It is one of those cruel funny jokes. Where I live we have some from other disasters too. But if I post it some, like you, might disagree with me and report me for not being as sensible as you.
And people have been sleeping without a roof for a long time and not having enough to drink or eat good food but I don't see you posting about them.
I like this map, gonna download it and check if you made Puerto Rico, it has to be up to scale!!!

I'm not posting about other unfortunate people because I havent seen any low life make fun of the other poor unfortunate people in the world. I dont see how this is relevant... this joke isnt a funny cruel joke... it happen not one month ago and you people think its funny to joke about something like that? The ignorance that blankets some of you is beyond belief. How bout you save some money and explore the world a little bit... you'll see the world in a new way, because you'll realize that your insignificant life is really that small compared to the rest of the world.
Those who are insulting each other: SHUT THE HELL UP! That's what PMs are for Thanks.
If you're lost here a tip on how to find your position:
Press F3 and get your X and Z coordinates.
Multiply each by 60.
Your new X is your degrees North or South (-X is North, +X South)
Your new Z is your degrees East or West (-Z West, and +Z East)
Plug your coordinates into Wolfram Alpha or Google to get your location.

Sorry for being an ass but I really wanted to get a response from you, even if I had to be rude xD
Great work going on guys, I'll wait as much time as it takes, but I'd just be chilled if you posted a message every 3 days or so, I've had my share of developers who make awesome promises, the community waits and meanwhile they've changed their RL name and flown to the Caribbean to never be heard of again. Don't take my rants too seriously because I actually love you <3
Forever
PS: Don't do rivers. 1x1 lines across the land would be very annoying.
The major rivers are really necessary, as it easier to move inland. Just add the Mississippi system, the amazon, the Nile, the St Lawrence, and some of the bigger Chinese rivers. Just make sure that they're big enough to get boats into. It'll compromise some of the accuracy, but without them theres no real reason to move inland. Also, make the Great lakes region more accurate, as my colony in Michigan cant access the sea like its supposed to.
Hmm, I hope I dont get major lag on this world. Downloading takes 1 hr...not so bad, this world looks good though. I plan to build houses at California :biggrin.gif: and igloos in Alaska

Woah just Woah
I finally have a break and can I say that the server is running perfectly with many people already building in places like Iceland, Australia, Denmark and many more spots across the world.
Salexp you can consider yourself number 1 of my most awesome people who made maps in Minecraft list.
Flying south of the Himalayas somewhere in Pakistan or India
The only problem I have with this map is that the water looks weird on the edge of land. It just goes straight down instead of gradually getting deeper.
ABOUT THE UPDATE: So, as you might have guessed this is taking longer than previous expected. We have to find time to work on the Earth between class, studying, work, leisure time, etc, and there really isn't much there lol. Most of the new update is finished, but there's still a lot to go.
Rendering the world contributes most to the time it takes to update this. We can improve or update the code in a couple hours, but then we must render the map (which take ~15 hours without even doing trees, ores, caves, etc), and investigate whether our changes actually worked. Because it takes so long I encourage you to let me know about any bugs you encounter so we can fix them asap, PM me if you're scared of it getting lost in this thread.
I appreciate the support and patience! We will release the map as soon as we get it finished!

Can we get a detailed explanation on how this is made? Is the source code available?
How long did it take to generate? :tongue.gif:
The code reads each pixel of 6 different images individually and interprets the color values to mean specific things. For example, we use a monochromatic elevation map. The darker the color, the lower the elevation. Those values are adjusted to represent a block height. Other color values might mean a higher frequency for trees or the type of block is at the surface.
Source code might be released after this next, and most likely final, update. However its a mess and we aren't sure yet.

Can someone give coordinates for some places? I'm totally lost, and it'd be nice to know where to find NY, or Japan, or Hawaii, or some other place.
Go to Wolfram Alpha and find the coordinates of the place you want to go. Multiply each by 60, that will be your Minecraft coordinates. Using the Minecraft compass (-X north, +Z east, +X south, -Z west) it shouldn't be difficult to find what you're looking for.
