Father, grandma face manslaughter charges after 11-year-old found shot in Miami home: cops
A father and grandmother are among a trio facing manslaughter charges after an 11-year-old girl was found with a fatal gunshot wound at a home in a Miami neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
Around 12p.m., Miami officers sped to an emergency call about a child, identified as Taliyan Clark, suffering from an “apparent gunshot wound” at an apartment close to the 200 block of Northwest 17th Street, near Overtown, police said.
Though three adults were in the house, police said the young girl and her 9-year-old brother were left unsupervised in a bedroom, where investigators ultimately found a gun and bullet casing.
The child’s father Titato Hatzate Clarke, 40; her grandmother Charlene Ann Webster, 59; and Clarke’s romantic partner Nancy Severe, 43, were apprehended Tuesday night and charged with aggravated manslaughter on a child under 18.
While being interrogated, detectives say Clarke gave inconsistent statements when questioned about what happened. Clarke and Webster said they were in Webster’s bedroom when Taliyan was shot. It is unclear where Severe was in the home at the time of the incident.
Clarke told investigators that he ran over to the kids’ room after hearing a loud pop and found his daughter suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper left side of her chest, according to the report. The shooting left behind “pools of blood.”
He rushed her to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she died.
Detectives then executed a search warrant at the home, discovering a .40 caliber silver casing on the floor of the children’s room near a dog cage. Nearby, they found a Glock handgun wrapped in a pink scarf and brown blanket on top of the cage.
That report also revealed Clarke has been convicted of 12 felonies, including false imprisonment and battery and custody interference by a parent.
Severe, who shares three children with Clarke, was found guilty of child abuse charges filed in Orlando in 2018.
