Making your work available through Pure

The Research & Impact Open Access Website provides flowcharts of the essential steps within the Pure Repository system for REF OA compliance. You will also find a short video of an Ulster Depositor uploading and an Ulster Editor reviewing for OA. There are additional pertinent resources available on the website to help guide you through the process of making your research OA.

What is an accepted manuscript?

The accepted manuscript (also known as the post-print) is the author's final draft, after changes from peer review have been incorporated. Also known as the Author’s Manuscript or Accepted Author Manuscript, the content is the same as the Publisher's Version (see below), but the layout will be different.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge to the author to upload a permitted version of their article into a subject or institutional repository, such as the Ulster Pure Repository.

If you would like to publish in a journal that will make your article immediately available online, publishers may charge an Article Processing Charge (APC). The cost of this varies depending on the journal. RCUK states that the average cost of an APC is £1727.

We have in place a number of discounts with publishers and funders that may reduce the cost of your APC . Contact us at Library-OpenAccess@ulster.ac.uk to see if we can help reduce your costs. For RCUK funded outputs, see the Funder Policies tab. For publishers, see the APC Discounts tab.
